I entered a photo at Picture.com and was notified that they chose it to be published in their yearly book and I was entered for their grand prize. I could also buy one of the books (for a price of course). Just wondering if anyone else had heard of them before and know if they are actually reputable or if some off the wall company is just gathering pictures. It all looks legitimate but Im new to this, thought someone with more experience might know more. Thanks.

Well, I tried to do a search of the forums here to link you to other threads that have been posted about picture.com but it's not working right now. I don't know about them being reputable, but they send out alot of stuff like this and pretty much anyone who enters a photo to them will get this notification and option to buy the book. You may also get a letter a little down the road saying you've won an award and that you can go to Washington (or wherever it is) to attend the ceremony. Which will also cost you money. Do a google search on them to get more information. I think they are mainly just trying to sell books, which I've heard, some people don't even get... but do some follow up on them to find out more.

Stay away from them. I believe they also go by the name of Circle of Photographers and have been blacklisted by Paypal. That's probably why they're using picture.com. There's a whole thread of dicussion on one of the other photo site: www.betterphoto.com. |

thanks for the info. Picture.com and circle of photographers are different sites but I was notified by both of them that my entries were selected. I figured it was some kind of scam, wanting me to buy the book. I guess Ill have to be more careful where I enter photos. Oh, and I think this one is pretty reputable, the smithsonian magazine is having a photo contest also.

Don't feel bad. I fell right into the trap. They are real con artists. They appeal to one's ego. My fault for not checking them out better. Smithsonian has a legit contest. |

EVERY image wins and gets in the book, no matter how bad it is.
I did buy the book the first time and admit it is nice but never did anymore. Also look out at the end of the year when you get that letter inviting you to the conference to see your image displayed and send them $600 (I think it was lower but not much) for shipping and handeling of your prizes.
I still have like 5 images on there but haven't done anything with them forever.

Hmmm, sounds like the exact same scam, uh.. contests poetry.com runs. I know some people that fell for that one.
