Please let me know what you think about my Honduras photos...I've started a photo documentary about a community called Nueva Aldea ("New Village") on the outskirts of Tegucigalpa. This past week I was there as some members from a few local churches went down to help them install a well and water tank as well as build a church/school building.

Please click here [ //www.mikeschneider.ca ] and look under "Nueva Aldea" for some of the photos I've finished toning since getting back on Sunday. Lots more to come...

Thanks.

I'll tell you what mike....those are awesome! They really do give me a feeling and visual understanding of the area and the people just in the images you have so far. If thats just a sample...you did a great job! Thanks for sharing!

Mike,

Those photos are exceptional. I love the way that children in third world countries, no matter how bad the poverty or despair, can show a smile and a carefree attitude. It's so refreshing to see images like that. Most journalists who cover assignments of this nature always seem to search out the worst case scenarios to create their impact. Where could we ever enjoy photos of a couple of young children enjoying their day playing in an old decrepit bus?

Kudos on an excellent job.

Mike,
Ditto what John (JMSETZLER) said. Wonderful photographs of some beautiful people living in difficult surroundings. Your photographs remind me of the people I met a couple of years ago on a trip I took with our church to aid the ribeneros ( river people ) along the Rio Negro in Amazonas, Brazil. Similar to Honduras, there is an ongoing government project in Amazonas to bring one well & water tank to each village so that the people can have access to clean water, and I'm glad to see that the effort to help the people in this way is getting more and more attention. For most of us, clean water is taken for granted. For them, its a real blessing. Thanks for going to help. Your efforts will result in many blessings.

Wow, thanks for the kind words everyone...they mean a lot. Please look for updates over the next week or two as I've got more photos to post.

I want to develop these pictures into a photo story that I will use as a proposal for funding to go back and continue the documentary. I can think of some organizations to approach but if anybody has any experience with this please contact me via email (mike[at]mikeschneider[dot]ca). Thanks!

Put a few more photos up today...still not through my first run yet but it looks like I will be able to make a neat little photo essay out of this.

Thanks for the kind words so far...Photos are at //www.mikeschneider.ca (under "Nueva Aldea").

Good news to share with you...it looks like my photos will be published in a small photojournalism magazine - this will help me pay for part of my return trip to continue my documentary and and will also aid in my pursuit of funding with other organizations.

Also added two photos from Honduras at //www.mikeschneider.ca under "Faces" and one photo under "Places"...more to follow.
