Sheesh....
All the last week, blah weather except on Friday, when I had a long-anticipated golf date. And here we are with a "landscape" challenge to post up to. My ballpark, right?
This morning, a big, high, troubled sky, so I went out roaming with my new 1Gb card. Rreally wimpy light, very unsatisfactory, but I traveled hither and yon, 60 miles worth back-and-forth, poor Karma riding shotgun all day long, and filled the card... That's a first for me.
And now I have over 100 RAW images and I need to cull them and process the best of them and see if even ONE of them has a prayer in this challenge...
Wish me luck.
Had some fun with some swans in passing, btw, but swans ain't landscapes so....
Robt.
edit: forgot to mention the 256Mb card I was using at the end; final count, 150 RAW images. But some were shot in burst mode (didn't hike the tripod in for those) so make it maybe 115, 125 distinct images...

Ha, that's funny we post a thread saying basically the same thing within 3 minutes. Glad the weather finally cooperated out there. I'm weighing my options as we speak. Luckily I am too lazy to shoot RAW, I just bracket like crazy so I have less work to do. |

Why so few Robt?
I managed to click off over 350 this weekend, and so far only tossed about 20 of em.
UGH - darn these new cameras and bigger cards...

I wasn't going to enter anything this week, but caught a shot today. SO I entered lol. Nothing fancy, and nothing great, but I thought I'd give it a shot and see what kind of advice I got this time around! |

Bear the swans are coming through here too. We saw about 20 of them at the park today. I've never seen more then 2 at a time so I got all excited. I think the locals thought I was nuts but oh well. West coast you're lucky if you see them at parks and they're placed there.
We had lots of fun feeding them and I of course took a lot of pictures! |

Thought you gave up golf? Any other bad habits you can't kick? Me too, actually. I took just one early morning shot for Landscape & then played golf. Alas, both were a waste of time. |

Wasn't my idea - honest. I don't have the balls.
A little birdie told me to say that.

hahaha....
Just done my cull... You gotta remember I'm the guy who would go on the road for 2 weeks with my 4x5 and bring back a dozen images. And here I am with over a hundred...
It was really difficult light. If this landscape challenge were advanced editing I'd be happy, but it ain't so I ain't... I got a couple of "interestinf" shots, but we all know how "interesting" fares in here...
As for giving up golf, never... That was my first round in almost two years, but I hit two absolutely pure shots and both led to birdies, so the addiction is as alive as my pocketbook allows it to be.

I feel for you Robert, I just spent 2 hours on one photo trying to work around the editing rules and finally got an acceptable edit...and what kills me is that I could have done it in less than 15 minutes under advanced editing...

You're singing my song, dude. I work 3-4x as hard on basic as on advanced.
Off to PS now, all the RAW processing is done...

Its been pretty yucky weatherwise here to. Everything is just so drab, Entered in a landscape yesturday, but just doesn't make me love it. Today was nicer and told about 100 shots, some look pretty good. But only basic editing, is going to hurt me. |

This is certainly true, BUT... in "blah" weather, advanced editing is worth its weight in gold. Basic editing works really well in "nortmal" conditions, but when you need more "punch" the ability to separate sky from foreground is invaluable.
Nevertheless, it is what it is... We "blah weather" shooters are locked in combat with those shooters who found perfect light. Our job is to goose the parameters a little within basic rules, and see what we can "extract" from what God gave us to work with.

Rough estimate: .9 Gb of trash, .1 Gb of potential... I'll keep you posted :-)

Yep. And dull weather might be quite good for trash pictures :)

10% potential, that's pretty good.

Update: an image that has NOTHING to do with "landscape" (or swans, for that matter) has striking potential for free study, though there's plenty of time for that one yet...
