To the tune (or lack thereof) of any rap song:

The solitary leaf she calls "Evolution"
is really a victim of air pollution
all shriveled and brown
it aint gonna be around
when the sun goes down
but I'll still be here
and I'll still be a clown

I love birds but I do not throw stones at them.
I have entered the stone so the stone knows me.
What is flight is a condition of being is a use I would find for a leaf.
What is dream but a condition of being is a use I would find in a New Republic.
What is new is now so very old.
What is old is this story book which is not poetry.
This is not poetry.

What is poetry is only the stone. The stone is the bird, and the bird is in the stone.
What is poetry is what I have when I have nothing but love for that which is not anyone's property.
What is poetry is the sky and the earth and the child who has no mind for commodities.
What is a sky without birds in it. What is earth without women and trees and pebbles. What is the worth of one man.

This is the bird who has come to me.

He wanted to be on his own
So mother tree let him go
As he fell he enjoyed his ride
He had never been so alive
Blowing free in the winds of change
He hit the ground suddenly feeling strange
For the sun had exposed his frail state
Now he withers his deadly fate

turning from green to brown
at autumn's end, the leaf
weeps in a sudden shaft
of sunlight. her raw grief
is more than I can share,
who have not known bright air
as recently, or well
on my november hill.

nothing within, not even hay

has died in their sleep
but the barn is still standing
a human could weep

It cannot remember
the joys and the pains
that happened within it
or not even the rains

It stands as a sentinal
though all doors are ajar
the walls are all splitting
the roof needs some tar

Now it just waits
and time is not kind
come back in a few years
what would you find

Maybe not even rubble
will mark where it stood
but we saw it back when
and we know it was good

The family that built this
I hope they can see
that their barn\'s still loved
by people, like me

sorry if it was too sappy for you, best I could do in an hour!!LOL

If anyone if game, I've got a test for the resident poets. Let's see how meaningful of a verse can you come up with on one of my favorite subjects...specifically this one.

These are just different pics of the same light. Read the print on my mock Mag cover for insight & if you'd like to dig deaper for helpful info, you can check here for an abbreviated history/timetable.

Hmmm....let's spice it up a bit. I'd love to get something to use in our restoration efforts, so why don't we sweetin the pot. Best useable piece will win a 6x8 tile set in a wood frame or a set of 4 sandstone coasters with holder , imprinted with a pic of their choice...one of mine or their own.

Please only post something if you are willing to let me use it in our restoration efforts (with full credit noted).
Such as: having it put in our LI Lighthouse Society newsletter, imprinted on tiles & other substrates along with an image of the lighthouse for fundraising items (like this one I didn for another cause

When the light settles
does darkness rear
from oceans flat
as the mountains leer

The shadow's reach
across the land
each finger a peak
of the mountain's hand

Hurry, close the windows
lock the doors
darkness is approaching
then night horrors

A match was struck
light filled the air
brim stone and sulphur
the shadows again flare

They danced and laughed
as light's life wained
then coldness creeps in
child's dream stained.

Still unclear if you are asking if people read or write poetry or perhaps both. But to answer the original question that started this thread, yes, I have and do write poetry (I like to read and critique pieces too when my time permits)

If anyone is interested you can find my works at //limnersphere.deviantart.com/gallery/poetry/?view=2&order=6&limit=90 My moniker at the deviantART site is limnersphere.

I have also had some poetry/short stories 'published' at Plicity //www.plicity.org/?/seasons. Again my moniker there is Limnersphere.

Just a taste of some of my work that might compliment laurielblack's image

Seasonal Footprints -

Wander in the verdant valleys
and the timberlands will bear
hushed awe to procreation.

Buds unfurl like that of tiny hands
reaching,
stretching,
branching out
toward the vernal sun.

Stride through this now encircled grove;
behold the tracery
of each and every leaf
akin to the august whorls
on the seasoned hand,
harboring silent knowledge
harvested with age.
Wooded rings will yield
epochs of mirth or somber ails.

Stroll in scarlet and russet crush
leaves fall along side footfalls.
Feet leave engraved prints
in dark, rich soil.
Seeded in the vestige of decomposition
are remains for a new generation

So now here I sit
til some wind comes along
my colors are lost
though I've done nothing wrong

My home, it is lost
my place, it is gone
my future is bleak
as mulch on a lawn

Very fast thoughts, intend to try to come up with something better!
A moment in time, a flash of light,
welcome warning and a disaster saved.

A minute of boredom, a strike of a match
dry wood burns and a ruin created.

A penny, a dime,a nickel, a dollar
investment in history and hope restored.

Was published in College. Worked on a book (as the verse writer) with a photographer in Highschool. It was a collection of writings (poems) associated with various photographs. Never received any money from it, not sure if it ever got published.

Have longed to do one myself. Good thought. Have nearly 40 years worth of verses. Great winter project.

Once housing the Master's of time,
I'm now left to weather.

My panes are split
and my soul is the wind
as she blows throuh my fingers.

My time has been
or yet to be,
My master's gone
and left me free.

My plight is written
in leaves blown by
as witnessed under
a clouded sky.

May someone please
adopt my heart
and save me from
this work of art.
