what about people in urban areas? are cityscapes included in landscapes?

Is this a landscape ? I can't see a whole lot of 'land' as such but I'd consider it a landscape shot.

I'd consider that shot as a landscape myself. It has buildings on it, but it's still landscape.
That said, enter such a photo at your own risk. I feel most voters will not see it as a landscape. It's a shame, and makes it difficult for us urban folks (the majority of us, no doubt) but I'm afraid cityscapes wouldn't be well received. |

| Gordon, that is definetly a landscape, because it's emphasis is the topographical features like the curve of the land and the river. If it was only buildings and manmade structures, then I would call it a cityscape, and say it did not apply. I 'd say submit. |

I think I will be doing some traveling for this challenge. And spending money on some filters. I love these challenges that make me go to the book store and study.
Gordon, I would consider it landscape, but then again I am an amiture(sp).

yes.. gordon, I consider that a landscape.. and agree with catpixel.
I don't think he was considering entering that one since it was taken before the challenge was announced, I think it was just an example.

| I think most dictionaries describe a landscape as 'an expanse of scenery.' There's nothing about scenery that lends itself to purely natural elements, though I think most people find more beauty in natural landscapes. 'Cityscape' is a coined term. |

Yes, I wouldn't be submitting that, also because it is about 5 pictures stitched together

I think Gordon's pic is a good example, because it shows the contour of the land and the building are secondary in my opinion.
I looked up scape in Websters and this is their play on it:
Main Entry: 3scape
Function: noun
Etymology: landscape
Date: 1773
: a view or picture of a scene -- usually used in combination
I hope this doesn't just cause more confusion. |
