Just had one yesterday..... 12 hour fast for bloodwork (water only, coffee - may be acceptable but no cream); discussed past medical history; just drop your pants method for prostrate (rubber gloves and lubricant); bonus (you have to ask) free pack of Viagra.

Update:

I peed in the cup, had a fasting blood test done and had my nuts squeezed.

The tests came back and I'm seemingly very healthy. Which is good news, except that it doesn't help my tiredness...although I am glad that my cholesterol is okay.

So now, I will do two things to help my tiredness:

1) Join the gym...I used to have an 'active lifestyle' but now I don't...I sit at a desk all day. I think that may help.

2) I will eat more fruits.

I will start this new life after I get back from Honduras.

This may seem crazy, but for two weeks you should try completely giving up sugar.

No white sugar, no brown sugar, no soda, no alcohol, no nothing with any sugar in it. This inludes sucrose like you find in fruits.

Drink lots of water and when you have to have something sweet use xylitol as the sweetener. (You can get it in health food stores and natural foods stores.)

So what will this do for you? It will stablize your metabolism so that you aren't constantly on a sugar induced seesaw of high and lows. I went virtually sugar free for a month, and I still maintain only a minimal amount of sugar in my diet each day. And I feel 100% better for it.

I was seeing a marked improvement after 1 week, but after 2 weeks I felt almost too good, and was amazed at how much better I felt overall.

I read this post today (and laughed my butt off doing it!)

I'm glad the doc gave you a clean bill of health. But since you had your thyroid tested and have such problems running in your family, just thought I'd share my own experience.

I had a similar problem to yours, and my doc tested my thyroid. The results came back as normal, but I had a copy of my bloodtest and decided to look up what each thing tested (yep - spent most of my childhood wanting to be a doctor - became a software developer instead). Anyway, when I looked up the thyroid thing, I found that the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) changed the range of what they considered to be proper TSH levels in 2002 to a much lower, narrower range. (//www.aace.com/pub/tam2004/tsh.php) My lab, and my doctor, were still considering the old range to be normal (0.5 - 5.0), while the AACE believes a TSH in the range of .3 - 3.04 is better.

Anyway, I showed this to my doctor, and she decided that we would try thyroid meds. I've been using them for about 6 months now, and they've been helping me quite a bit. I'm so glad I did my own research.

So, you might want to ask for your blood test results and do a little of your own research, especially considering your family history. Even if in the end, your thyroid function is deemed normal, keep an eye on it. Heredity can be a pretty strong factor here.

I went sugar-free for over half a year, also caffiene-free. I fealt MUCH better and had MUCH more energy.

Unfortunately, I've been back on both for years. I find it's just too hard to find food without sugar added, it's quite maddening! Then when you have a choice of something with or without sugar, the without is more expensive.... WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? It makes stuff cheaper when sugar is added? Pfft!

Sugar (aka. the white death of modern society) is so very bad for everyone in so many ways... worse, even, than alcohol, drugs, tobacco... well, you name it--it's worse.

Folks are just beggining to see how bad it really is.

Obviously a certain amount of sugar in ones diet is unavoidable, but the idea is eliminate as much of the processed sugar as possible.

Ok, does someone have a website on this sugar thing to help me out with this new diet I will attempt for a few weeks? I think I eat sugar with every meal...in fact, I'm sucking on a mint right now.

I have cereal for breakfast, cookies and juice and sandwhich for lunch, etc. This could be tough!

You can try most any of the no-carb diets, or you can check into SugarBusters... they work, but it's difficult to maintain. Believe me, I've tried them all.
