Which is your favourite crop of the first three?

Which is your favourite of the last two?

Which do you like better, one of the first three, or one of the last two?

No Photoshopping allowed on these!

Thanks! :-D

I like the last one on each line. Very nice. I think it has to do with the flow from left to right and the placement from top to bottom, but I'm not finished with my coffee yet so I could just be sleep-deprived. Either way, those are my choices. :)

I agree with Laurie...
The very last one is my favourite of all of them...

I'll third that. The leading line works best in the last on each line.

I like the perspective most in the last of the 5.

I have to concur with the masses... ;-) (I hate it when that happens!)

Yep, me too!

I far preferred the first one on the top line and the first one on the bottom line aswell.
Love the way the reflections of that first one form the angle across from bottom left to top right - and in such nice colours. There's no distractions from the lights overhead that don't flow in a line like the rest (like in the others).

The second one is interesting because of the figure on the bench and still, overall, has a nice composition.

Those are my thoughts, anyway.

In hindsight, I should have named this thread something else, like, "help me win a Nikon D50," though there's not much chance of that happening.

I entered a one-day contest, only allowed to take 40 photos on a marked CF card or film roll, within the city limits. I ran into about a dozen people shooting for the same contest and am very disappointed. The contest is for amatuers only, the prize for best shot is a D50 with kit lense, winners in other categories get a variety of point & shoots. Every person I ran into had cameras/lenses that made the D50 look cheap. It's a frikken catch-22. The worst part is, I didn't get any compelling shots with my little point & shoot.

Anyway, out of 40 shots allowed, I have to choose two to enter. Three pro photogs will be judging by looking at 4x6 prints. No photoshopping allowed.

Here's a group of misty shots I got in the morning. Any merit to these compared to the above?

I have a couple of afternoon shots I'll post up shortly. I had lots of fun doing this yesterday, & met lots of nice people, but I still feel very disappointed about the situation, especially not getting a compelling shot.

Oh, and in the second shot above, the guy is walking down the boardwalk to a spot I was at just moments before. (He isn't in the contest.) I met up with him again later & we were chatting for a while. He got a few AMAZING shots of a deer jumping through the swamp I had just left! What a kick in the ass!

-edit: officially my first 'chimping' experience.

Last two shots on our way to pick apples...

I've really discovered how reliant I am on Photoshop, at least to crop & lighten/darken my shots. This no Photoshop allowed stuff is tough.

Oh well.

If it's a "compelling" shot you're looking to enter, then that last one called applepicking2 is the most compelling of all, I think!
Not sure why you would be very disappointed about the competition and the cameras etc. etc? The main point was - that you met some lovely people, enjoyed yourself and had a great day. That's worth so much.

Thanks, you're right, I should look at the bright side. I may have even recruited a couple of locals for DPC. It was pretty funny at one point. I was taking shots of city hall late at night & another guy shows up across the street with his space shuttle-worthy gear & we were yelling back & forth at each other for a good 20 minutes! :-D
