...In the Greeting Cards challenge. Anybody agree?

I mean...I know it's a common thing to put on cards and all. But origionality would be cooler...

flower shots generally do well because people can quickly associate with them. i score flower shots well that are not only technically well done, but somehow convey a different message or offer a 'twist'.

Bummer dude - you must be getting spanked by shots better than yours. Worried about a couple of flowers are you? ;^)

Maybe mine is a flower, maybe it's not - but it sure bites to see someone smack a category down in general. Take a deeper look, maybe you'll see some that ARE creative. Just a thought.

I did say that some of them are creative, and no, I didn't enter this challenge. I wasn't smacking down the category...I was just stating a fact.

I voted high on the pictures of flowers that deserved it, and low on the ones that were mediocre.

i like flowers too... check my portfolio but when you see so many in one challenge... it's a bit too much...

I actually thought there would be more flowers than there were. There were certainly a TON of great shots in that challenge. I don't think I've ever scored so many so high.

i think it was the subject... everyone likes a nice greeting card with an emotional message attached to it.

No disrespect Caleb, but you never mentioned anything about any being "creative" in your original post, actually quite the opposite when you said "origionality would be cooler...".

As for stating a fact it sounded more like belittling to me and when you mention one type of image you are categorizing.

My reaction would have been the same had you started a thread saying:

"Sooo many kids......In the Greeting Cards challenge. Anybody agree?

I mean...I know it's a common thing to put on cards and all. But origionality would be cooler...

BTW, there are some creative kid shots in this challenge, and I ALSO like to take kid pic's once in a while. ;^)

I score flower shots very well as long as they meet the challenge. They have feelings too :)

HEE HEE, Pug.

I find a beautiful flower image as stunning as others, but I agree that as pretty as it can be, it isn't always unusual, but more "expected." I find it interesting when someone seeks out something that isn't an everyday thing and makes a captivating image of that instead of something in the backyard or on the side of the road. But look at my portfolio - I have tons of images of flowers. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever entered one in a challenge. Hmmmmmm Wait, yes I have - look at STARK - nobody like it. ha ha ha ha ha

to me flowers are too easy. you walk through this dreary world and every once in a while there is a fabulous blast of saturation and color growing out of the brown dirt with a stunning background of green that you can shoot out of focus.

The contrast of a flower to everything around you is so stunning, your eye is drawn right to it - I fight to urge to shoot them constantly -

I tried to send some (really really good flower photos mind you) to stock houses when I first started doing stock photography - they just laughed at me - they have millions of flower shots because all the right-brained artists in the world see the contrast of beauty to concrete and run right over and shoot it -

I'm with Caleb - I would prefer more creative stretching - however, if you are a flower lover, and that's what makes your socks go up and down, I've got to respect that and judge the photo on it's technical and creative merit.

That having been said, my commercial photog friend (he's been doing it for 28 years) told me his best selling print ever was a studio shot of tulips. Hmmm...

for thoes of you who hate seeing"anoter flower" photo try looking at the photo. what is it about that flower the photographer wanted to photograph? I happen to love( and i mean love) photographing flowers. Its my thing, just look at my portfolio,Id say a good 70% are flowers. I have always loved flowers(even do flower design/arrangements in my spare time) and i tend to want to remember one flower over another for one reason or another. might be the color(royal splash), could be the petals themselves(double tiger), the water on the petals(heaven tears, after the rain, and dalhia), or the shadows created by light playing on the petals(hide n seek, glad to be red) that im really taking the photo of. so please dont just look at a flower photo and do the whole roll the eyes and say " oh geesh...another flower". look at it please and vote what you feel the photo deserves.

edit to add: my best selling shot is my purple flower "Royal Splash"
