I used to own the deli and now I help out the new owner on Friday nights. Now if everybody from Dpc shows up on the same night I'll have to reneg on the "free" offer. Would hate to bankrupt him in one day. Hope to see some of you.

Was a pleasure meeting you Nick.
The Bratwurst was excellent as was the company!

Speaking of which is anyone doing the Races down in Chula Vista this weekend? Sheesh it's 50 bucks a piece for prime seats (30 for standing only)... but it is an all day event of Baja Stye Racing with Open Pits and Sunday when I plan on going POD will be playing in the afternoon. Should be a ton of Pics.

Then again we have the Island Paradise Festival at mission beach and the girls are going to be wearing coconuts and grass skirts...hmmmmm

Chalk La Strada is October 8th and 9th in Little Italy. This is a festival that includes artists doing chalk art on the streets. Great photo opportunity.

Chalk La Strada is very cool...I had a blast there last year.

Hey did anyone capture the Light show (not the missile launch but the lightning storm we had a couple of weeks ago? I was just too tired to get it together to get outside to get any shots (actually I think I was fearing that huge Pine tree in my backyard).

Anyways here's what the lightning looked like over BradP's neighborhood Lighting over Poway a few weeks back.

CosFrog the guy that took these is Pro Studio Photog here in San Diego that hangs out with the guys/gals of the SanDiegoDSLR Photography Group.

This Weekend in San Diego...

The Coronado Classic Speed Festival

Set against the stunning backdrop of San Diego Bay, the eighth annual Coronado Classic Speed Festival will feature 225 of the world̢۪s most unique and pedigreed machines at one of the most distinctive stages, Naval Base Coronado, the birthplace of Naval Aviation.

Little Italy's Festa This is a way cool street party that has Chalk La Strada (chalk drawings on the street) while there be sure to check out the bocchi ball and Stick ball tournements...lots of cool candids

Week after next is the Miramar Airshow...anyone else sitting in a chalet for this one?

Anyone going to the airshow?
I'm from LA and plan on going on Sat, so I can process Sat/Sun and rest.

I will be there Saturday on the west end, down where the Angels are Staged (Woodfin Corporate Chalet)... I Don't think I will be able to sneak anyone in.

I was gonna say if there is any way you can afford it (I see they are 60 bucks now and 65 bucks each person on day of the show) the flight line chalet is an awesome gig, photog friendly, unlimited water and SHADE... and brunch. I did that one a couple years ago. Dead Center on the flight line.

Free admission to the airshow gets you to the static displays... and close to the flybys but you will be behind the chalets and stands and miss the Harrier AV-8B, the ground force enactment (bombings and wall of fire...way too cool), Shockley's Jet truck and a whole bunch of other things.

You can get box (in front of the grandstand) or grandstand seating for 17 or 6 bucks but you will be sharing the area with a gazillion other people.

If you go the chalet route and get your tickets now, you will also get prefered parking which is way cool...as you get to sneak in the back way...no headaches at all getting in or out.

Anyway you slice it you want to be on the other side of the chalets/stands to see the real show...Angels are a very small portion of this event. I do one day in a chalet all day and another for static displays.

Miramar Airshow

ED: I'll have a red, white and blue bandana on and be carrying the 20D with 70-200mm 4L... you may see me milling about.

Hmmm,
Thanks for the advice, I guess I'll have to rethink the ticket siuation, free grub, water, and SHADE!!! is starting to sound real tempting.

A fellow photog from LA and I are interested but he's got a gig Sat. and so we might have to go Sunday when you are doing static shots. I don't think I want to do two days of driving down, so I'll have to the flying stuff on Sat. and call it a day I guess.
Thanks for the advice though.

From the Flight Line Chalet taken with my Canon Powershot Pro1 last year.

Bad to the B-one...

We can make it sunday and got Flight Deck Chalet.
If you are there, come by and say hi. We'll be one white and Asian guy, Dan with a Canon 1D mark II with probaly a 200 f1.8 L lens and me with a Canon 1D mark II N a Bigma and a monopod.

Very cool...If you haven't seen this show lots of cool stuff. They will do a ground force Simulation with troops, tank, copters etc...pay attention from front and center from the flight deck when the 18's come in as they will light up the flight line with simulated bombs...

At the end of that portion of the show they will light a huge chunk of the flight line on fire (Blasts) and trust me it is intense (you will definately feel the heat...

DO's... Get there as early as possible...Lines to get in to the air field start stacking up at 9:00AM...

Prefered parking you will be going in the back way...have your car as clean (free of clutter) inside, they do random searchs of vehicles and less stuff is quicker... Mine was searched last year and I (we) was in and out in just a few minutes.

Bags - No HUGE Backpacks... I got in with a Lowpro Mini Trekker 100 last year just fine. Website states no backpacks larger 8.5" x 11", I seen them turn people away with large School type backpacks. Bags will be searched at the gate.

Hand carried my monopod and that was fine...

Different Topic...for the Wild Animal Park visitors...If you are planning on going to the WAP to take pictures of Lion Camp...I would wait a few weeks.

It seems the new attraction that is about to open:

Is scaring the daylights out of the Lions and they have not come out of their den for three days now...the trainers beleive that they will get over it in a week, but I seen the look in the catz eyes yesterday when they seen the big yellow balloon and I bet it will take them a little longer to get used to it.

Hey guys,
Wired Cafe (in the Renaissance Plaza off Towne Centre Dr. in UTC) is hosting a small exhibit of my photos until the end of December. We'll have an "opening" this Sunday at 7-10pm, so if you care to stop by, I'd be happy to see you there. I'll provide a limited quantity of free sangria :)

I will be in San Diego next week. (Jan 23-27) Plan to have some time Monday pm for a road trip. Looking for "coastal" pictures. Any suggestions? Staying just North of the city, so would prefer that side.

Thanks in advance

A little north from the Cove there is famous Scripps pier nearby on La Jolla Shores

and still a little more north - (in)famous Black's beach

After dark I recommend Coronado island (easy access by Coronado bridge) with great views of San Diego downtown
