I will machine some umbrella tripod mounts, with incorporated flash holders. Basically, I'd like something versatile for a mini home studio to speed up setups such as for portrait photography, or studio macros.

So, I'm looking at umbrella options on bhphoto.com... but the prices range so greatly that I have no clue what to go for? How much should I spend on a simple white umbrella? What size would be good for me?

bhphoto.com...

Thanks for the help!

Aleks.

If you want to go ghetto you could buy a golf umbrella (one of those big ones) and spray paint it white. I put one together for about 3 dollars. Depends on how desperate or bored you are.

This is a golf umbrella! And I'm pretty desperate and bored...

Unfortunately I could NEVER spray paint it white because the thing I love about it is that is says Cocksacky on it. hahahaha

For the brackets, I got four of These which have been great..

For brollies, I got mine from ebay, about $15 US each for 36" white from memory, can't remember what I paid for my silver ones, but I hardly use them...

I started out with home bade brackets & spray painted golf umbrellas. Worked fine but to fiddly to setup & take down, and the paint started to flake after a few months. They still worked fine though, just looked a little ghetto.

Cheers, Me.

Last time I checked, a golf type umbrella from Target cost as much as a real one from B&H or elsewhere.

Might as well get the real thing, unless you have a few sitting around gathering dust...

BTW - those flash backets are cool Chris. Hmm.. threes HS5600(D)'s with wireless TTL, two umbrellas, holders, brackets. Oh, wait, I'm poor. CRAP! There goes that....
