Hello everyone,

I've finally had a chance to do the assignment (kind of.) While shooting for the Long Exposure Challenge, I tried to combine the assignment and the challenge. Most of the shots attached will be attempts at long exposures (but not all), using the smaller aperature settings (large numbers) and my lowest ISO (200).

My attempt in the falls and rock shots is to create a calm, yet dark, feel... that feeling of being alone in a deep forest under the foliage canopy.

My attempt in the bridge shots is use the S curve of the stream to create interest. In the bridge shot with the border I colored the grass to cover up our desert colors. The natural colors show through on the other shot.

I've tried to use the Rule of Thirds in images, to keep the shots simple/clearing out the chaos and to use either line or pattern to create interest.

I did not use any of this series for the challenge, so they are fair game. You do not need to be gentle, just honest.

Thanks, Becky.

Olyuzi, you mentioned light metering in one of your comments on one of my pictures (the yellow flowers one)
Originally posted by Olyuzi:

Love the contrasting colors here between subject matter and background. DOF, however, imo, could be deeper so that all of the blossoms show in focus. An alternative composition could be getting in closer to the top blossoms or cropping out the bottom ones and zooming to see the top blossom more clearly. I also think the flowers are a bit overexposed. Spot metering on the petals may have eliminated this. Impressive image, nonetheless, despite the issues mentioned.

For our next lesson, could the mentors expand on what metering is and how to use it and when to use it, etc. etc.?

Cheers

I hate to be a bother, but this mentorship has sort of petered out. Are Olyuzi and deapee incredibly busy? I'd understand completely, but I was learning so much and I don't want to see this mentorship die out...

Any word mentors?

Cheers!
