Wow, I just came back from my local pro-shop (Photoservice in montreal) and they had 10 10d's for sale, they are re-furbished staight from Canon and look like new (1 year warranty).... the price was quite surprising... same as a 300d.

A good deal on a great camera. I just bought my daughter used 300d. Maybe shoulda waited for another 10d.

I don't know that this will be a "north american" thing...but I was stunned, they had 10 in stock!

Noticed in my local camera shop in the UK that the deal of the week was brand new cannon d30 for £260. As far as i can make out this slr was discontinued. Don't know anything about this camera, anyone out there used it. Only 3mp but it is an SLR...

is a 10D superior to a 350D?

no the 350 is better , but the 10d is better than the 300

I would still pick the thumbwheel over buttons any time. I am so used to manual mode right now that it would be a major hassle to switch now. I wouldn't know how to shoot...

Edit: Who says that I know how to shoot now?!?! Conceited, aren't we?

The 350D is efinitely better than the 10D in the operational speed department and AF accuracy, and has a few more pixels, and prolly less noise (not dramatically), but...
...definitely NOT better in the build department (quite the opposite) and definitely NOT better with regard to creative options. The 10D has full independent control of every function, is compatible with the "N3" style remotes (same as the 1-series cams), and the 10D is a more solidly built body.
My only real digs on the 10D are the operational speed and sometimes inadequate AF performance (but I believe my body is marginally calibrated). Still, I would not trade it for a 350D. A 20D, now that's another story.

When I was waiting for an XT to come in, the store let me buy a new (not refurbished), sealed-in-the-box 10D for $799 to use until the XT arrived...and I still have the 10D. I found that it met my needs entirely, and that the build was much more durable and the money I saved went toward another lens. If someone is looking for a dSLR and comes across them in the stores, I'd suggest they give the 10D a try anyway. It might just be love! ;)

edit...yeah, that thumbwheel ROCKS!
