I''m sure there are plenty of abstract definitions of texture though :)

I think that the textures that are interesting to look at/ photograph are the ones
that have more of a finish to them, that''s all. Sure smooth, flat surfaces have a
texture, it is just boring - maybe making them interesting will be an interesting
challenge!

trees are a good bet
for interesting textures, and I personally like rust

I really love that tree bark Gordon, but the rust>>>lol<<<save that one for the Toxic challenge. <g>

May I share the "trouble limb" with you?

I took my picture this morning and I like the way it came out. Cliche' maybe, but I don't really care. I'm not worried about the cliche' thing because most of the time it doesn't seem to end up being what everybody predicted.

Kee, I love the black and white of the tree. I would score that one high.

Glad you liked it - I thought about going and shooting it again for this
challenge, but went for something fairly different this time around...

Well, my score is either going to be really good or really bad.... Anyone ever get that feeling? =)

Sorry, Gordon. I was reading that at work and gave Kee the credit by accident. As good as that one was, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you came up with for the challenge.

Went out again tonight... watched a friends softball game, then took a lot of photos... some texture, some other stuff. I think I did get a few nice texture shots during the day on a break from work, and a couple nice ones tonight... I think the hardest part of this challenge for me will be deciding which one to submit... there are a lot I like, but none that I'm excited enough about that I'd submit them right now and not even look at the others (like the one I submitted for my free study shot) Some of mine have some really nice light so the texture really stands out, others have fairly flat light, but the texture is really interesting. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the one I do submit.

Why can't I see my photo which I submitted on my home page? All I see is a box with a red X in it. This never happened to me in other challenges.

I would unsubmit the photo and try again.. you may have one of several problems... your file may be larger than 150k, it may be improperly named... the extension should be .JPG only..

I tried just that: unsubmitted and tehn resubmitted. Got an email of confirmation that my photo was received, but still no image to show

Does your photo meet the 640x480 or 640x427 size requirement?

[/i]

Yes, I think it meets all requirements. Once before when I tried to submit the wrong size it was refected, but this one seemed to go through. The only thing I can think of is I have a space in the file name--maybe I need to fix that up and try to submit again!
07/20/2002 11:29:56 AM · #39
definitely... give the file a simple name... short... all lower case.. try it again... :)
07/20/2002 11:30:33 AM · #40
That did the trick! My file name was either too long, or had a space. Thanks for your help Jmsetzler!

welcome :)

The images are now stored on a server that runs Unix and there have been some file name issues recently. Drew and Langdon are working on these...

Well, finally!!! Have made my descision and uploaded my photo for the Texture challenge. I had a difficult time getting started on this one, then, I started seeing "texture" everywhere and ended up with too many choices. Held a family choice awards, got feedback, (everyone chose a different favorite) but, two people commented the same as I felt about one particular shot, so, that's the one I used. I'm getting excited to see the new entries. Should be very interesting this week. Is everyone having fun? I am. :>)
07/21/2002 09:39:11 AM · #43
Yup! Great fun. My kids say "Mom, pictures aren't EVVVERYTHING you know." I mock dissappointment and surprise saying "What do you mean?".
I had wanted to join a camera/photo club, but could never get away as my husband works 2 full time jobs. This site makes it perfect for me.

Anyway, about Texture: I posted mine the other day, but last night redid it, and I was happier with that result. I posted that one last night after unsubmitting the first.
In the meantime, I am feeling what I always feel by Saturday "OMG! Let's see the results, already!" I am sure I'll be on-line tonight at midnight to see the Free Study results pop in. It has been an excellent challenge, and lots of excellent photos! Good job to everyone, and good luck on Texture!

If an image lets me imagine what it would feel like to touch the subject, it meets the challenge for me :)

So I'm bracing myself for a week of "I don't see the texture here" comments attached to whatever I submit :)

OK I was totally lost on this one, but this comment saved me. So Ive gone and submitted a totaly non wallpaper pic that will probley bomb in the ratings. But I like it, and I can feel it in the photo :)

OH, me me. I am having fun also =)

Seriously though, after not entering a picture for the first few weeks I uploaded my first picture for ''Open Challenge'' thinking what would be a better time to get started. I recieved over 300 votes a score right in the middle just above 5 and nearly thirty comments so I am very happy with my first time out.

Now I have uploaded my texture picture and I am way more happy about this one. I think this time I may even not have taken a picture everyone else took.. of course that means i may have the problem the guy above mentioned but so be it =)

well, with everyone being so worried about there being too many wallpaper pictures, and therefore not submitting any, i'm hoping that it turns out that mine will be the only one and everyone will go 'wow, different, a wallpaper' and i'll win! :)

I spent the entire weekend taking photos for this challenge, and got some wonderful shots. Today when I downloaded them onto the computer I found that the date on the camera had reset itself to 1/1/2000. I am crushed as I can not retake the photos (too far away). ACK!!

Barbara,

Go ahead and submit. The EXIF date is not an issue unless someone makes a DQ request on your photo because they believe it to have been taken out of the acceptable date range.

I just noticed the clock on my camera is about 20 minutes off. That turns what was an ineligble picture from last week (thought it was taken too early) into an "outtake" and -- of course -- a bit better than what I submitted...

Barbara,

I read that if you put new batteries in your camera without FIRST turning it off you will lose your date setting. You might want to check into this for the future.
