I've only been with this group for a few months now - and I have an enormous road of improvement ahead of me - but I refuse to give up trying to better myself on every challenge entry.

In the beginning I thought that I should really only enter those challenges in which I thought I had a decent chance of a showing a particular aspect of my introspection. After further submissions (and subsequent abyssmal showings), I realized that what I really needed was a venue in which I could challenge myself to continually improve. I think I have found that here...

I know that many people feel that my current camera is not capable of creating (or that my post-processing) a "winner" photograph. I am steadfastly determined to prove that wrong.

I may be mistaken in my beliefs (it certainly wouldn't be the first time!), but I sincerely believe that if you create a composition that is engaging to its audience, that it doesn't matter what equipment you may use. (Okay, okay... so maybe I have some other related "male" issues to deal with...) However, I REFUSE to believe that I can't achieve the same levels of accomplishment, with an untarnished heart and a vigorous incorporation of truly honest & steadfast set of ideals, not to mention a fairly good sense of humor & irony...

Thank you gaurawa - sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement... I appreciate it.

You're right, it's all about the "eye" or the "vision". Being able to capture something that makes someone feel something does not require any specific kind of camera.

You've got the most useful tool you need right there, its called "determination".

You are right, it's not the camera its the person behind it. If you look at my top 2 challenge entries they were from my previous cameras a Panasonic FZ1 [2.0mp] and a Panasonic FZ20 [5.0]. Now I have a Canon 350XT and have not toped those scores to date.
Keep up the good work and with your conviction you will improve steadily. Good luck and hope to see you photographs on a regular basis.

In the early months of this year, I set myself a challenge to shoot only with a very cheap camera for a while: the Finepix 340 Zoom. The following three images are from that 'experiment', and I sincerely believe I learned more from tat process than from almost any other I've set myself to.

However, if my experience over the past couple of years is anything to judge by, the process of learning to see photographically is one hell of a lot harder than the process of finding the money to get yourself a decent camera; only thing is, a decent camera is no substitute for that vision whatsoever. There are things the high-end cams can do, that can't be replicated - but there about sheer quality of image, sharpness, resolution, and adaptability; almost all my sucessful images here could have been taken with the 340 - only the ones taken with the Canon can easily be printed at 16x20.

I still have a LOOOOONG way to go, but I am starting to even see improvement from week to week. Keep at it and you will achieve your goal. and if ya don't we'll poke you with pointed sticks to get you back on track... hehe

He was actually the first photographer here that I made a Favorite. You're right - he's incredible and is doing it without top-of-the-line equipment.

And thanks to everyone for the encouragement.

I have a low-end camera, too, and had an even lower-end one for most of my first year here. I get "camera fever" still, but I also have to be honest with myself. I haven't really used all the options of what I have already, and the new opportunities that a new camera would bring will still be there later for me when I am ready. I thnk I have plenty still to learn with my little camera, and I did wrangle one ribbon out it. So keep your great attitude and you will be able to get wonders out of the experience!
