I have it, I love it... just about anything I've taken since Feb. 4 has been with that lens. ;o)

If you look in my portfolio, most any of the zoo or tiger shots are with that lens. Many of my PaD shots are with it as well (link below). If you need more examples, PM me and I'll be happy to send you some other links. :o)

The tiger shoots are really great. These further convince me I am making the right decision getting this lens. I think I will logout in a min and make that buy. Give me a few days and I will post some photos.

ie the rhino (ryno) shot is also great. Only in my dreams lol

I don't believe that is the same lens elsapo... the one you identify is not USM IS.

I just bought the 75-300 with the IS......
Great lens so far attached to my Digital rebel.
The Tamron 75-300mm is MUCH cheaper but it doesnt have the image stabilization.
If you have the cash, go for the Canon 75-300 with the IS

Edit typo

I have the ef 75-300 III non IS non USM -- I love it. Although I've never really used the 'higher quality', faster glass. I don't have any complaints in buying it and really no complaints about using it.

Here's a shot with it...

I had this lens for a while. The image stabilisation is just about the greatest thing since sliced bread, although I found the focus speed a real issue. It's terribly slow. I ended up selling the lens because of it and now I really miss the IS.

Sample picture at 1/100s, 170mm - equivalent to about 270mm in 35mm terms handheld.

a couple shots that i've taken with it.. i actually haven't put it to full use yet :(... still need to get out to a zoo or something and just leave that one on all day. of course, these two shots have been edited in PS, but the sharpness is definitely there if you don't have perfectionistic standards

I have a Canon 75-300 mkII non-IS, which I replaced with a Canon 70-200/2.8L.

Even with the L, I still have a lot of respect for the 75-300. It's light, compact, zoomy and good value. I shot some polo with that lens, and stopped down to around f/8 it produces reasonably crisp images.

My friend has the IS version. You do pay a premium for IS and it's only IS mkI. This is pretty old now, and only supports bidirectional stabilisation, making it useless for panning. Also IS only works on static images because it compensates against light hand movement. If the object is moving, for instance shooting a basketball game, IS won't work.

The big question would be what do you plan on shooting. If it's mostly static images where you need the extra hand holdability, the IS is handy. If you plan on using a tripod a good bit, it becomes less of a nessecity.

If possible- head to your local photo store and stick both on your camera. Take some sample shots. See what you like the look of best.
