How would an Image like this make out in the Abandoned Buildings challenge? Is this out of the box? It became a Museam a long time ago.

Great picture, but my take on the challenge is an abandoned building, ie- no one using it at all for any reason.

Not so well, I think. First, because it doesn't look like it's abandoned. Second, if people knew it was a museum, because people don't generally consider museums to be abandoned buildings. The quality of the shot is pretty good, but the subject would hold you back.

In my opinion, if you photographed something like the US Congressional building, with a title like "Morals Abandoned Here" or something similar, you might do well.

Doesn't look abandoned to me, in fact it looks pretty well kept.

I would consider it an example of how people want to take any nice photograph and "make it fit" the challenge by using a clever title. By that logic, all challenge topics would be moot. Hypothetical example:
Challenge: Bored
Title: "Bored of taking great photos"
Winner:

Thinking outside the box is one thing and you can find plenty of examples of members who came up with unique ways to represent the challenge without compromising the spirit of the challenge rules. Of course you are free to submit whatever you want. :)

"Residential or commercial, rural or urban, abandoned buildings often have unique textures, colors and character. Show us a great photograph of a building that is no longer in use."

Based on that sentence alone, the image doesn't meet the challenge regardless of its original use. The building is obviouslu well-kept so it doesn't qualify as "abandoned".

Not to be a stickler, but "well-kept" and "abandoned" are not mutually exclusive. I've seen many homes or buildings in use that were anything but well-kept and I'm sure there are buildings no longer in use that are in decent condition. In the example above, however, the building is in use. :)

I suppose that's true, LOL. There's a slight ambiguity between the concept "abandoned" and the concept "no longer in use." If I were being a real nitpicker, I'd say that a building which is being maintained does not qualify as "abandoned" regardless of whether it is in use or not.

One thing I'm sure of though; to submit an image of a clean, well-maintained building that happens no longer to be "in use" would be to BEG for a low score on the basis of DNMTC...

LOTS of that in NYC. Just bring some backup to protect you and your camera while you prowl the docks and abandoned tenaments in the ghettos...

Hehehe - with the requisite strobe lighting you might be able to pull of a few matrix-style bullet dodging shots! (pun is lame and unintended).

Lol..my guns are too big to carry. I think Ny is much safer than people think. It's a police state afterall. I am more worried about trespassing fines.

how is that for an abandoned building?

I wish I was back in Russia for this week - plenty of such gems there. Not so much here in San Diego :(

What about an abandond house that is used by the homeless for shelter. It's abandoned but its still in use so doesn't meet that criteria? Surely that would count?
