There was editing in film photography - it's called the dark room, and it's called burning and dodging. those terms game from film. not photoshop.

It's that coating you have on your tongue when you wake up in the morning.

What about in camera processing, would that be allowed?

For instance, my jpg files from the 20D can look very different from the unprocessed RAW files.

With RAW files, are you allowed to even change light balance, or must it remain "as shot"?

But then you'll get the curly ones .... the 20D can process, in camera, and produce b&W, sepia, various tones ... not as well as PS but they would still be directly out of the camera. If those were not allowed, then would in camera sharpening etc be allowed?

I think this would be a great challenge, I am not trashing your idea at all ... but I think the limits would need a fair deal of defining ... although the easy solution there would be "anything that comes directly out of the camera" maybe.

This challenge suggestion comes up every so often, it obviously has appeal. It's been discussed enough to get pretty specific on the details. Only editing allowed would be 90 degree rotation, cropping, resizing and resampling to get it within challenge size limits; shoot in JPG, not RAW; no borders. Did I leave anything out?

I think it's time to go ahead and do it.

I don't really use photoshop. I try not too. I also have Gimp. I like to use the program that came with my camera! I only do basic stuff.. like lighting, contrast, and minor color enhancing. Of course sharpening and cropping. But I hardly ever clone, or use multi layers. I know how, I just don't like tampering with my photos for some reason.

No colour correcting, like a 1-hour lab does.
No exposure adjustment, like a 1 hour lab does.

I think you got everything, bar all the things traditionally done in point and shoot photography.

Actually I'm a complete twit when it comes to anything beyond basic editing. I'm stuck shooting jpegs so most layering is out of the question. I use Microsoft Picture It - trying to figure out Gimp - so even with Advanced editing challenges - no can do.
