As many of you know, for the last 3 years I have participated in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's annual walks, an last year, walked for the first time in the 3 day, 50 mile Challenge Walk. In those three years I have raised nearly $4,000, with over half of that coming from this community. Once again, I am deeply grateful for everyone's support.

This year I will once again be walking 50 miles in the 2005 Challenge Walk from October 7-9. My goal this year is to raise $2,500, and I am asking for your support in reaching that goal. The best and easiest way to donate is via the NMSS web site, but if you prefer to donate via check or PayPal, please email me for the appropriate information.

Every hour of every day, someone hears the words, "You have multiple sclerosis." They enter a time of unpredictability when they wonder each morning if they will see, if their legs will work, if they can pick up their child. This is why we walk. When people come together to walk together in the MS Challenge Walk, awareness is generated of the many programs and events provided by the National MS SocietyĆ¢€™s nationwide network of chapters. Husbands walk for their wives, kids walk for their dads, co-workers walk for their cubicle neighbor. Each one is raising money so that local National MS Society offices can provide literature, support groups, and education programs. So that we can continue to fund cutting edge research into the cause and cure. Research that has developed 5 therapies for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Research that will continue, until in the end, 2 hours pass when no one is diagnosed, then a day, then a week, until the day when no one is diagnosed, and the cure is found. This is why we walk.

Whether or not you are able to donate, I invite you to write me with the stories, and if you choose, the names, of your or any friends or family members living with MS. These names and stories will travel with me during the walk weekend.

Once again, a HUGE thank you to everyone who offered their support in 2002 and 2003, and 2004 and thank you in advance to everyone who will offer their support in 2005!

-Terry (donation link)

Edited to add: In addition, BAMartin and I will both be donating 100% of our print proceeds between now and October 1 to the National MS Society. Prints are at //bamartin.dpcprints.com and //clubjuggle.dpcprints.com.

Terry,
Your efforts on behalf of those with MS are so commendable. Here's wishing you luck on making your goal for 2005. I've made a contribution. Keep up the great work.

Terry,

As one of those persons you are walking to help, this is a charity that is near and dear to my heart. I am a poor college student, and am unable to to donate cash and am thus reduced to finding a creative way to donate. I will donate all proceeds from sales of my DPC prints between now and october 1 to this great cause. Thank you again for all you do.

My prints are at //clubjuggle.dpcprints.com, and Barbara's are at //bamartin.dpcprints.com.

I discussed this with Terry but I don't have it ready yet. We are going to hold an auction here for one of my framed prints in the very near future. Terry picked out the print and I just have to get it ready...

Stay tuned for more....

This is a great project. MS is a devestating disease. Through efforts of people like Terry, we continue to move towards a cure. As always, I'll be donating in memory of my best friend's mother.

I think what you are doing is great. The world needs more people like you. One person can't change the world but together we can make a big difference. As human beings we need to learn to recognize that just because a specific issue is not affecting us directly doesn't mean we can't do something about it to help those that are being affected and you never know what the future will bring; it may be that you or someone you love could have to face that very same issue in the future. I'm not very good with words so I hope you know what I mean. In any case, payday's tomorrow, Terry, you can count on my donation.

Terry, on the auction we discussed, you picked out a photo, which is fine. I had an idea that you should pick out about 5 photos instead of just one. It might create more bidding and bring a better return for you. The auction could be for the winner's choice of any one of the 5 selected images. The images you choose should be suitable to put in a black mat and black frame. If 5 isn't enough, you can choose more for the auction. Having more than one available would likely raise more money.

The matting/framing will be professionally done with a wooden frame using all archival materials.

Vertical images will be 12x18 prints matted/framed to 17x25". Horizontal images will be 18x12 matted/framed to 23x18. The prints will have 2.5" of matting on 3 sides and 3.5" on the bottom (bottom weighted matting).

I would expect the auction to go something like this:

You start a thread showing the images that are available. A bid could be made in the thread. The bidder would be bidding on his/her choice of any individual print. At the pre-determined 'end date' of the auction, the highest bidder in the thread would contribute the bid amount directly to you/your MS campaign. You would forward the winner's shipping info to me and I would ship the print to the winner. If we do it this way, you can start the auction any time you like. Longer is better. I would like for it to end about two weeks prior to your walk.

Thoughts?

I can't wait to see more about the print auction. What a fabulous idea and a great way to raise money for a very worthy cause!!! I have two special DPC buddies who battle MS every day and I'll be making my donation in their names. :o)

I am excited to see this auction start. I also want to remind people that 100% of my profits from DPC Prints will be going to this cause. There is a cure right over the horizon, I desperately want to see it in my lifetime. I am volunteering for clinical trials for a promising new medication, and much of this research is paid for by the very organization Clubjuggle is walking to support.

Good luck Terry. I'm in and registered on your page...

I guess I need to read about the auction. I just left you a support donation.

Thanks Neil!

Just a quick update for everyone... so far in this short time we have raised $245 -- just under 10% of the goal! I really appreciate everything everyone has done so far! In addition to your donations, I have also received some wonderful words of encouragement, both from people who have MS, and friends and family of people with MS. It means more than I can express to know this effort is really improving people's lives.

If you haven't had a chance to contribute yet, please consider doing so. It doesn't have to be a large amount, even a few dollars helps tremendously. Of course, I am still offering free prints to anyone who donates $50 or more. Contributions can be made here.

Thanks again for all your support,

Terry

Good Luck, I really apprciate your effort and wish you the very best for such a great cause.

Edited to add the auction is a great idea.

Just a little reminder that 100% of the profits from my print sales through September 30 will go to this great cause. Once again, thanks to Terry for doing this most generous walk, from all of us who suffer with this disease.

Hey, thanks for the bump guys.

To anyone thinking about donating: Don't think that you shouldn't donate because you can only afford a little bit... even $5 or $10 helps!

Last year, half of the money I raised came in donations of $25 or less... don't be afraid to help because you can only help a little... even a little does a lot when we all work together.

Thanks again,
Terry

For anyone thinking this is a "Not in my Backyard" malady, keep in mind that at least one very favorite and respected member here is dealing with it daily, and suspect there are others too.

It strikes without predjudice.
