Since second-hand FD lenses tend to be dirt cheap, and i spend most of the time in full manual mode and focusing manually anyway, i keep wondering if it's possible to get adaptors to fit older FD lenses to EF-mount cameras? I've never heard of such a thing, but it doesn't seem too complicated a principle.

Do they exist, and if so, where can i get one? Otherwise, is there some good reason why you can't adapt an FD lens to EF fit? Does anyone know of any sites showing home-made adaptors? I don't know much about FD, is there something else overall i'm missing?

Check out this link for some interesting information on the FD-EF adapter that was distributed in very limited quantities from Canon. Only worked on some of their lenses.

There is other aftermarket stuff out there, but I have never seen samples produced from them.

Unless you already have FD lenses you would be better off looking at the M42 mount. The FD to EOS adapter is not cheap, requires extra glass to achieve infinity focus and from what I've read, most are of questionable quality. The M42 mount is cheap and doesn't require any glass so no reduction in quality.

There's been a couple of threads discussing M42 recently ...

Nope, but i keep noticing exceedingly cheap ones selling on ebay and in local camera shops.

M42 lenses don't seem as common, at least from a quick look on ebay, but i hadn't realised it would take extra glass to adapt an FD to EOS. I'll have a look for M42 stuff i think - thanks for the tip.

I have tried this and was very disappointed by the results. My suggestion is donĂ¢€™t bother.

Make sure you're searching for M42 in the descriptions too - that's where most sellers mention the mount type.
