well, I have everything pretty much how I want it, but the way it is, my camera won't fit in my bag with my 75-300 on it. I guess I could just take it off every time and put the 18-55 back on...but then if I'm say driving back from wherever and see something in the distance I want to shoot, I'd have to stop, change lenses in a hurry, possibly dropping or braking something or whatever...

does anyone else's camera not fit in their bag with a certain lens on? Is that the norm, or should I do some rearranging. And if I can get it to fit with the longer lens, then with the shorter lens, it won't really fit as 'snug' in there with the 18-55 and might get jostled around and break...geez..I think I over-analyze sometimes..what's your takes?

edit: anyone have any shots of how their gear is all stowed away in their bags -- with their camera too?

I just bought the Lowepro Micro Trekker 100 last weekend, and it holds my camera body with the kit lens attached, my 50mm, my 75-300, flash, batteries, filters, etc. and I still have space for another lens if I get one. The dividers are moveable and everything feels really secure. It's not too big and it's durable. I'm very happy with it. You might check it out...they're very reasonable too! :o)

all my stuff fits, I even have more room for a flash or whatever (which that section I currently have sectioned off with the velcro things that came with it).

What I'm after is whether or not your camera fits in the bag with the 75-300 attached or do you just swap the lens off each time to store it away?

edit: this is the bag I have... //www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=13111010 ... space isn't an issue at this point...just curious about re-arranging to fit the rebel with the bigger lens.

I have the tamrac velocity 7. I leave my tamron 28-300 on and it fits pretty good...plus I carry along the 55 that came with it and a big flash. I just got the grip to go on it and it makes for kind of a tight fit...but otherwise it fits good.

It would fit with the 75-300 attached, but it would be snug. I usually just put the kit lens or the 50mm on it when I put it in the bag.

ok thanks...here's a shot of mine in the bag...does this look like a good way to store it? I know, I'm weird, but I always worry about maybe messing something up or it being in there wrong...

That section on the right, I could remove it and it would then fit with either lens, but would obviously not be as snug that way.

man...I gotta say pulling out that dsc-p52's case, blowing the dust off of it, unzippering it...the turn on noise brought back memories of before I even knew ... well ... anything about photography...not that I know much more now, but I gotta say I kind of miss that carefree, point and shoot method. I might have to use it again in an upcoming challenge.

I have the LowePro Off-Trail 2 (the bigger one). The main compartment basically fits the camera face down, with up to a 80 - 200/f2.8 lens on it. Which is why I bought it. Then there's two side lens pockets, each fits a lens around the size of the 70-200mm/F4L (or piggyback smaller lenses). It's good for shoulder use or as a waist pack. But the price is that it's a little tall compared to most waist packs. I paid around $70 for it.
Here's a pic

Personally, I'm not enamored with carrying a 200mm lens, which is why I often skip it and lighten my load completely with the Sigma 18-125. Carrying around this one versatile lens means I basically can get back to a much smaller pack like I used to carry my G2 in!

hrmm...sounds good ... although I'm not sure I need something bigger. I guess I'll just throw the 18-55 back on it when I'm done doing whatever I'm doing. I have a lot of extra room in my current bag when it really comes down to it.

Did they have that in pink???
Anyway, I have the Tamrac Velocity 7 which holds the Rebel with a 75-300 attached plush two lenses or a lens and a flash. It it great for guys for not so for girls, the strap falls right on the breasts making it very uncomfortable if worn as a backpack. I also have the Lowepro Computrekker which is a great bag but pretty big, at least for me as I'm only 5'1.5. I use it for travelling. I've come to the conclusion that when it coems to camera bags you can't have every feature you want in a single camera so pick the one that comes closest. Good luck!

Good thing I have my wide angle on my Sony and use the Panasonic for tele shoots :P

Another thing, I'm thinking of getting the new Tamrack Expedition 4. I want a smallish bag for everyday shooting. I would love to have a shoulder bag but carrying all that stuff on one shoulder would be a mother. That's when the compromising thing comes into play, by getting a backpack I am trading accessibility for comfort.

For what it's worth, I think it's not a great idea to stow a camera with a lens attached. I can do this with any of the bags i'm using, but I just don't think its a great idea to do it. I simply pull the lens off, replace the caps on the lens and put my body cap back on my camera body.

When i got my Rebel I instantly outgrew my shoulder bag. Due to budget restrictions, I needed a cheap alternative...

I found a backpack on clearance for $10. For the dividers I used some corroplast ( corrogated plastic, like corrogated cardboard, used for signs) and quilt batting, some satin-like material and velcro. In about 4 hours I had a backpack - for $20 total. It is HUGE. perhaps when i get around to fully loading with with gear i may opt for a stonger back, but for now it fits the bill, and the budget.

Every time you take a lens off, you allow dust to get into the camera and lens, and risk dropping the lens or maybe the camera. I doubt you'll wear out the mounting mechanism of the body, but less use means less wear, and less wear means a more accurate fit and a better seal.

Some lenses weigh enought that I believe it places unnecessary stress on the camera body over time... It's just my opinion though. I don't have much of a dust problem from my methods. I do blow the dust out of my camera body 2-3 times a week with the rocket blower and I clean my sensor about once every 3-4 months, depending on use.

I have a vest that I usually go shoot with that has a couple good pockets to stash a 2x add-on lens. When I need it I take the wide angle off and put it on the other side and pull out the tele. Much faster then taking off the backpack, unzipping, etc.

Not much for girls when it comes to camera bags these days :(.. I am using this with my 20D when in town.

If some camerabag manufacturer decided to make something more suitable for women I think it would sell pretty good.

Some women have shoes, I have camera bags. :) I have 7 different bags that I use for different shooting situations. I have small bags for just the camera and my 50mm, I havea Velocity Slingpack 7 for my 70-300, 18-70, and body. The 50mm is usually in there too. I have a Nova 2 for around the house storage. I have 4 different small bags that I use as a poor man's belt system when there's an event in DC that prohibits bringing bags. And I'm planning on adding the AW Stealth Reporter 200 soon. I'll probably also get the Tamrac Expodition 7.

You can never have too many bags. :)
