I tried to find a thread on this but I couldn't, so forgive me if this has already been asked.
I'm thinking of getting into stock photography, but I'm not sure if the profits are worth it, and if they are, what websites are best. I know there has been a lot of discussion of shutterstock/istock vs. more professional places like alamy and corbis.
My questions are: How much you guys have made off of stock so far? How long have you been doing it? What website(s) do you use now or have you used in the past? How many photographs are in your stock gallery? I think it would be really interesting to see how all these things are related..

I've made over $350 so far on Istock and Shutterstock combined with 216 on Istock and 387 on Shutterstock. That's gonna pay for a new camera bag and rechargable batteries for my speedlight! :-)

I deactivated all my other portfolios to go exclusive with iStock. I have about 270 active pictures there and with their new price structure, I think I'm going to be happy. |

i have made a total of $550 dollars since i have started about 4 months ago.. most of this income is from shutterstock and dreamstime.. i plan to make a living with this tock photo business and i think it will be possible within 6 months to one year if i keep at uploading the rate that i do.. key here is to have photoshoots of things especially with people for the stock photo purpose in mind... i am not a member of istock anymore. and i think other sites will be able to produce more income than istock withint the next one year.. people who can see clearly will realize a 30 to 50 percent increase in return by going exclusive at istock is not worth loosing up to 300 percent increase that will happen with other sites... both dreasmtime and shutterstock is following aggresive markettting strategies and people who stay along with them long enough are already seeing the fruits of not being so eager to leave for little return

I agree with you and have only the highest respect for Jon and shutterstock. The reason I went exclusive with iStock was because I didn't want to have the same photos on all three sites and I'm to lazy to shoot three different portfolios. I went with the one I could make the most with. And I have made more than what you have made with all your combined sales, granted 100 of it was pre 2004. |

you made 450 in just 15 days? how many pictures do you have up at istock. you must have at least 500 pictures.. and if so, 500 good stock would produce 150 to 200 extra dollars at shutter a month and about 50-60 dollars at dreamtime.. this is with their currrent traffic. and traffic is only will go up and i think in the long run will go down for istock because there is tougher competition..i have about 600 images at shutter and about 300 of them are not very good at all.. other 300 makes me about 100 dollar every month and not counting my referrals.. |

I just hit $2 with only 13 photos but I just sold $.60 in the last three days with two photo's I just put in on Shutterstock. I have been watching their most downloaded photo's and tried to put more like that in. That is how I sold three in three days. I have only been on it for about 1 1/2 months |

NO. Not that much. This is 2005. I've only made 45 so far this month. So most of my earnings were made in 2004 with 100 before 2004. You are doing good Mehmet. I believe you will be earning a living from stock in a year while I just ramble along doing what I want when I want. Again, I respect Jon and loved his site. It's a good place. I just decided to stick with one site and iStock was the site I decided to stay with. |

$10.40 and going...although I think I'd have better luck if I made a calender or put some effort into selling a print of anything. I'm sure someone will buy SOMETHING i shot for $15 hehe.

$5on Shutterstock, but I have only been doing it for 2 weeks and I have only a small handful of photos (6). Although my photos I think are some of the highest rated ones on the site (10 downloads for top photo in that time)lol

I am a great artist, people will only be willing to pay 100 years after I have died. Live sucks. :)

I think 10.80 on Shutterstock (49 photos up) and $1.50 on Dreamstime (12 photos up). Over span of about 4-5 months. Not sure if I should continue uploading - seems like people at Shutterstock wth fewer photos are getting more downloads. Great job to those of you who are really making some money at this:)
