I took this last night. Please click as the thumbnail is not that exciting. There are two really neat things about this photo:
1) There is no sunlight whatsoever in this photo.
2) The saturation hasn't been touched in post processing.
It's a thirty second exposure of the city lights of London, Ontario with a plane flying into the city at night. It's amazing what neat things snow can do when it's reflecting light back into a cloudy sky...

Okay, something is screwed up...the photo looks all messed up in dpc (with sharpening artifacts and jumpy transitioning of tones). Could you guys help me out here?
Click this link then click this thumbnail and view the photos side by side.
It's the exact same file, but the photobucket one looks a million time better...what's going on here?
Is it because dpc resizes to 640 pix on the longest side? Help!
Edit: This has been fixed, see next post...

Okay, I didn't get any responses so I just re-uploaded the dpc photo after downsizing it a little further to 640 pix on the long side and it makes all the difference in the world...
I feel like I'm talking to myself but I figure if someone else can learn from it, then more power to 'em...

When you click on the link it shows your photos have moved to buzznet.
Aside from that, the image looks the same on my monitor in all three posts. It's a very cool shot, the colors are really nice and the only nitpick I have is the jaggy look to the trail in the air. But I am sure it's much better in a larger, more hi-res pic. Great capture! :o)

well...after spending 10 minutes trying to compare thumbnails...only to realize they all point to the same file...
i know with JPEG the more you open edit then save a file, the more artifacts you are liable to get, always try to edit the original then save it as a copy.

At first I was confused about the blips on the airplane trail. I guess it's the lights flicking on and off? Neat picture.
About the artifacts, Dpc compresses the file more after you upload it so there is an issue when you go over the 640 size and also the 150k range. Or at least that's what I have noticed. |

After getting no responses, I resized the dpc version to match 640 pix on the long side...before that it looked like crap...
Yeah, the blips in the line are the aircrafts lights blinking every 4 or 5 seconds...the trail is the marker lights on the plane which don't blink. It was way too dark too see the smoke or whatever behind the plane.

It's probably the glow of lights reflecting off all the backyard pools :-)
I was in London once, and it will forever remain in my memory as the capitol of backyard pools. |

The reason that you saw compression artifacts in yor first post is because of it being over 640px. I believe that a "medium" resolution version is automatically generated by the server when the original is over 640px on longest side. The compression on this automatically-generatd version is often visible. It's therefore a very good idea to resize to 640 prior to upload to you rDPC portfolio.
