I should rephrase that: sunsets generally don't do well. Extraordinary sunsets sometimes win. ;-)

Some of the NOAA* websites have photo galleries to which people contribute interesting pictures of atmospheric phenomena. Here's a link to the Portland office, where I submitted a couple of pictures I'd taken up there.

These are great - the last two are really interesting, particularly that mothership you caught decloaking...

I use the sky in a lot of my pictures. I guess people wonder what I am doing walking around looking up all of the time. Here is another one of a recent storm brewing.

This one is a sunset with contrails and small darker clouds the look like explosions above. Using RAW made the yellow come out setting it for Daylight.
