Ok, the first few were fun, but isn't this getting out of hand? |

Thanks. You put it perfectly. It's almost a website inside a website.

I agree. I think that the amount of time and effort that needss to be put forth to organize and actually complete these projects are being underestimated. These are longterm projects that will need time and dedication over an extended period time.
Just some thoughts...

I know this will take time, I know it will take patience and I know it will take a lot of effort but I also think the end result will be well worth it. You know, honestly, if you don't have something positive to say, please don't say anything.

Huh? I have nothing against the projects- I signed up for the first one I could, but we're already up to eight of these in just a couple of days. That outnumbers the challenges that are the focus of this site by 4 to 1. Why do them all at once? Save some fun for later! :-) |

Because not everyone participates in all the challenges and some people want more to do than just the challenges.
I need to apologize, it's been a very long, emotional day for me and my guard is up in high mode right now. I plan on the 4 projects I put up to take quite some time to organize and put together and for it to take a couple of weeks just to get enough participants involved. It gives people something more to think about, especially if you can't/couldn't/didn't want to participate in the first set of projects.
And this is just another way for the community to get to know each other and meet new people.
Sides, my Low Tech is really bothering me right now, everyone that has seen it outside of DPC LOVES it, absolutely loves it, but it's only sitting at a 5.8 to 5.9 here, which isn't bad but I personally thought and still think it's better than anything I currently have up on my profile page. So I'm trying to distract myself and find other things to work on and focus on.
Again, my apologies.

I want Unobtanium, the stuff we make infinitely stiff, massless components with at work.

You should really try and track down a short story by Theodore Sturgeon titled "It Was Nothing, Really!" |

The same is true of any invitational challenge, but there's no need to run them all at once. I think you have a better shot at managing and sustaining such projects as a steady flow rather than a tidal wave. |

There are a lot of positive benefits to this:
1) more constructive than shots for challenges that will never be walhangers [I'm talking about mine, of course :-) ] ;
2) all these projects give us more options to shoot if we don't want to go for the challenges of the week
3) with some of us shooting that, there will be fewer entries to score in the challenges, something people have been complaining about anyway!
And Laurie, actually, I really like the idea about shooting the elements! Or at least those found in rocks. I love rocks--they, well, they,..rock! ;) |

It shouldn't get out of hand for you unless you are running more of them than you can handle.

Don't worry scalvert, there aren't enough 'uncollaborated' humans left now for any new challenges.
Man will have to produce a new generation and then, in a decade or so, the whole process will start again.

And it's comments in the emails like this that make it really worth it to me:
This is nuts,,,,,,,here I am in my late fifties,,, excited like a young boy over the prospect that you might, just might pick one of my photos.
The other projects are great but I think a lot of the newbies might feel intimidated by the caliber of photographer that was chosen for most of them. I wanted something that everyone would feel comfortable participating in and it's going to be a great learning experience for all of us.
