When does someone from the critique club comment on a photo? i see the checkbox on the bottom of the submission of the photo but i've never been critiqued. I know you cannot Critique every photo but i'm wondering when does that happen. Since i've never seen nor heard about anyone from the critique club. has anyone one else had this experince?

I'm just wondering, so any comments or lightings on this would be nice.

I've seen a few peoples photos commented on by them yeah. Never mine though.

The problem is that over 90% of the challenge entries request critiques. There aren't enough people who spend enough time on it to get to them all. You just have to check the box and hope :)

Change is in the works: "Critique Club: Proposed Restructure".

I'm not sure there are very many people writing critiques at all - the numbers in the queue have been very high of late.

It should also be mentioned that shots do not remain in the queue indefinately, but for a week only after the challenge results go up.

Until yesterday morning there were over 400 shots waiting.

I joined the Critique Club a few months ago - anyone can apply - but it was very hard work and time consuming. It is clearly important to be constructively critical and supportive and people do not always "enjoy" having their favourite submissions dissected, despite having asked for a critique. It taught me more about photography and positive thinking than taking photographs - everyone should try it! I have found it difficult to do more than a few critiques a week and haven't managed any recently (it is important to feel in the mood or you do your subjects no favours!). On that basis, the Critique Club needs well over 100 regulars.

When starting out in the Critique Club do they help you with guidelines for critiques?

I thought everyone had to ask for critiques by the CC!?
When submitting, there's a checkbox saying:
'I would like an indepth critique on my submission.' And below:
'Not abiding by these rules may result in disqualification of your submission and possibly a suspension of your account.'
Did I get something wrong?

The rules referred to are the official rules of the challenge.

Asking for a CC critique is strickly at your own judgement -- as in, "Do you want an indepth critique?", or probably what it should be, "Do you feel the photo is special enough to you that you want a particularly well thought out critique from someone experienced at giving them?". It is all up to you.

When signing new CC members up, I nearly always send a list of example critiques from which the CCer can get an idea of what sort of thing is expected. In addition, Gordon wrote some critiquing guidelines a year or so ago, which I've found buried in the forums here.

I requested critiques on many of my first entries, but I never got one, so I no longer bother to check the box even on my favorite shots. It turns out that these critiques are nice luxuries, but not necessary. The 'regular' comments nearly always point out the flaws I need to work on. If you aren't getting enough regular comments, then you must find more interesting subjects to shoot (low comments are nearly always the result of a subject that isn't compelling). Lastly, leaving comments on other people's photos is one of the best ways to learn. Articulating what you like or dislike about photos will improve your own work tremendously.

Actually, a great way to improve would be to take those guidelines linked above (or something similar) and apply them to your own entries - before you enter.

Critique your pictures before you show them. Try and do it before you click the shutter. Seriously evaluate the picture you are going to submit - write [actually type it out] a critique of your own picture.

Put it away with the picture and look at it again in a few weeks or months. See if you still agree. Get involved in your own advancement as a photographer - it is the only way to get better.
