I'm putting together a slide show and I want to have the words in the text box be more transparent. Any idea?

Also... is there any way to modify or change the speed of any animation selected for a slide? I know you can choose for the slide transition, but I don't see any option for changing the speed of the animation on the slide itself. Thanks for any help!

When you choose Custom Animation from the Slide Show menu, you get to choose from five pre-set speeds for each particular animated area on your slide. Is that what you need or am I way off?

I don't know of any to make the words in a text box transparent. But you can make WordArt text transparent using a slider in the Format WordArt dialog box.

1. After you have wrote out the text - highlight the text you wish to make transparent

2. right click on the mouse & choose Font (round the middle of the popup menu)

3. Then within the effect box (Bottom Left) Select the option Emboss

Hope thats what your looking for. tell me if it works out

I knew I could count on the folks here! I"ll try your suggestions.

Laurie...I haven't seen the option you've described (and that's what I assumed would be there someplace.) They have three preset speeds for the slide transition, but I don't see any for animation for parts of the slide - but I'll look again. Thanks!

Hmm...maybe you're talking about the amount of time set before the animation actually happens. That's not what I need. I'm looking for something that affects the actual effect done for the animation. For instance, if I want the words to come in from the left, I want them to move slowly in from the left instead of quickly. Hope that clarifies.

The custom animation menu will let you choose how (for example) fast or slowly your words or letters come in. I just did one and chose the dissolve option, and you could pick from very slow to very fast (as to how slow or fast the dissolve happens). When you go to the menu, choose Slide Show>>Custom Animation>>Add Effect and choose how you want the words to come in, then choose the speed. Hope that helps! :o)

you have to pick slow, medium, fast, really fast, or whatever the choices are actually labelled. You gotta pick one of the preset speeds, to my knowledge.

I'm using powerpoint from Office 2000... maybe yours is a different version. Hmm... Let me think a while on that.

Sorry, I'm used to an older PPT program. I just checked out PPT 2000 on my new work computer and you're right: I don't see the timing settings either.

I'm using 2000. Oh well, I'll just have to work with what I have. The Word Art worked well for me. Thanks for all your help!

OK... when I first open Power Point... it's on a new, blank slide presentation. I just typed some junk into the two preset text boxes, then went to the top menu. I clicked on Slide Show, then Custom Animation. It brought up a tool bar or menu bar on the right side of the screen. Click on the text box you want to customize (to select it) and it makes the drop down menus in that tool bar on the right come to life. Choose Add Effect and pick the effect you want it to have (flying in, dissolving, etc) and then under Add Effect, there are a few other drop down menus, one of which is Speed. That's where the five preset speed choices are. See if this makes any sense at all. I'm not seeing things, I promise! LOL ;o)

Under the "effects" tab, I can choose what effect I want, and also if I want to add a sound. There is no choice for the speed of the effect anyplace. :( Darn.

Same here. My old PPT used to to what Laurielblack is talking about (custom animation appearing on the right panel of the screen) but now I get a pop-up menu to deal with. I think it's the same as jpochard's.

Dunno that this will help or not : powerpoint 2002, under custom animation, (once you've picked the 'fly in' option only) is when the speed appears

That's what mine looks like!!!! Maybe we got PP 2002 on our systems and I didn't know they upgraded! Whew...thought I was going crazy there for a minute!
