I was getting bored a couple minutes ago, so I picked up my Pocket PC and created a formula for estimating how high your picture will rank depending on your score. I goes something like this:
(7.64-S)/(4.667/P)
S= Your current score P= The total number of pictures in the current week''s challenge. /= divide(There isn''t a divide sign on my keyboard, so this is the best I have)
------------------------------------------- For example, I''ll use my last week''s picture: S=4.742 P=118
7.64-4.742= 2.898 4.667/P= .03955085 2.898/.03955085= 73.2727662
Estimated rank= 73rd place Actual rank= 71st ---------------------------------------------- Not bad, eh? There are a few things to note: 1. If your picture gets a rating above 7.64, just consider it first place, the formula wont work.(You deserve first anyway!) 2. If your pictures gets below 2.973, just consider it last.(same reason) 3. The more pictures there are, the less accurate it is.
(If you want me to I can explain how I got my numbers and how I figured it all out. For now, I''ve done enough typing and thinking for one night)

hahaha... I just went to check out the scores from previous competitions to figure out where I stood.... my rough guess was around 70th place... according to your formula 86th place... though there arn't many votes in yet, so things could change heaps yet... (up up up please :-)) )
It will be interesting to see how close it is to the final result. |

I LOVE little dodads like this. I was rated 6.413 out of 172 entries. THis predicts where I belong. 45th place, which I agree with, It is fair. BUT BIT I came in #12. Can the formula be perfected. Just as a mental exercise>
I was accused (whooaa, rudely) of scoring low and asked to desist from voting and get lost. So I made myself a little excell program which will average my votes on the current challange. If it comes out way low then I go back and look. But rarely change my mind.
Just a little math game. I'd be interested in how you derived your formula? |

Actually it looks like your average score given (below 4) is a little bit low. The bottom line is that it really doesn't matter as long as you vote fairly and honestly. Still, for some reason it seems to irk some people.
That said, there's no excuse for rudeness. Sorry you had to put up with that.

Hrm. Your formula puts me in 34th place, but from my current score I would end up in the top 10 in nearly every challenge, sometimes as high as 2nd. I think this gets flawed the higher or lower you go.

I agree with MCI, this scoring system puts me in 68th place, but I have not seen a challenge where this score wouldn't put me in the top 20.

I saw this thread a while ago and ever since have been itching to create a dpc predictor. Finally got around to it tonight, its a little rough at the moment but if you want to check it out... here
I have found it to be 'quite' accurate although each challenge is different so its never going to be spot on. :) |

This is a pretty old thread. Just wanted to point out the "/" is a divide sign. In case you wanted a different division symbol like this "÷" all you have to do is hold the Alt key and type 0247. |
