So when all else fails, where/what do you turn to for inspiration?

I tend to open up a recent issue of HOW, PRINT or some other design-rich magazine to get the creative juices flowing. Ofcourse, this doesn't help my photography much thus the purpose of this post.

So...what's your inspiration? Where do you pull your ideas from? I'd love to read 'em all.

I get some of mine by just getting out, driving around...pretty much hunting for a good shot. I like the idea of reading a magazine and getting ideas that way, but I don't want my work to reflect others, that's why I let life happen and hopefully a few photos will fly by at the same time.

How interesting that sher and I were having this same conversation last night...we're both in the market for new muses as ours have apparently abandoned us. We thought of placing a classified ad for them.

...however we both decided that the new muses should resemble Johnny Depp, Antonio Banderas, or Brad Pitt... ;o)

When do I start? Oh, waitaminit... how MUCH of a resemblance? In heavy fog, I'm a dead ringer for any of them. ;-)

There are a couple of things I do for inspiration.

#1 - I maintain a list of ideas that I want to work on. When I'm in the mood to do something specific, I go to the list if I don't have an immediate idea.

#2 - The Photo-A-Day project keeps me constantly thinking about something to photograph. A lot of mine are simple snapshots, but in the pursuit of this project, I tend to find things very worthy of shooting. Sometimes I add things to my list from this endeavor.

#3 - Series photography - I currently have two active 'series' sets running. I have recently started work on a third set. Having multiple images on any given topic or theme is inspiring to me.

#4 - Remember that its OK to make shapshots. Make lots of them and start an album.

I'm sure this will sound corny to some, but my wife is my inspiration. Whenever I'm lacking for an idea, or if I'm trying to decide from among several alternatives for a challenge, I go to my wife. She can't photograph worth the damn (always cuts the feet off of people...), but she has a great imagination.

ΓΆ€ΒΆ I seek silence, so I may hear better.
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Emptiness and abandonment to relieve my cluttered mind and to remind myself of what has fallen off the wagon.
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Dissociation, for denouement.

I am trying to remind myself of the destructions I have witnessed or partaken in. The ruins of what you or I once were, I feel, make a great soil for compassion, affection and care.

I have a very real faith in the muses. While I cannot rely on them, I reserve a space and a time for their occasional visits. When they do honour me with their, sometimes bacchian presence, I pretend to be as light-headed as they are, as not to impair their nature and my transport.

I try very hard to forget the tools I use (camera and pen, mostly), so I may communicate more directly and intensely with nature, of which I too am an object.

You have to inhale it (exhaling might be more profitable).:-)

music...that's my muse. with the exception of photography, it's the thing that feeds my soul. whether i'm creating my own music or listening to another's creation, it always stirs my emotions and i'm usually remembering some song title or lyric when i'm shooting.

that said...an alternate muse that looks like Johnny Depp surely would stir a lot of emotions, too! ;)
