Nope I think the darkness works really well, but then I do like low key shots. I think the crop works with the expression - it's intimate yet intrusive, as if the viewer is disturbing a stolen moment.

Wow fantastic shot mate, there is something very Bresson about this which I really really like. He almost looks like he's coming out of the screen at you. My favourite in this challenge by miles, well done and 'grats on the HM.

Now this is very creative, I love the 50s advertising feel. Great model, pose expression and prop. My thoughts on improving this would be a) be more selective with your background features, in this case I think if you just had the cupboards and to the right and less of the window/ sink it'd be a bit tidier. b) Slightly sharper focus on the model's face, c) the lighting is not quite there, it seems slightly too harsh and the colour balance is a bit cold.
