This seal pup is in the wild, they come up the beach on Donna Nook, Humberside, North East England. You can go onto the beach and mingle with all the seals, they are fairly tolerant so long as you move slowly and calmly. There are thousands of them! As you can see some of the seal pups were a little over friendly!!

I hired a 500mm f/4 prime for the weekend .... awesome bit of kit, I want one!! Just need to find the 6 grand!! Used a Manfrotto 393 bracket on the tripod which made using the 2.5kg lens very easy.

Basic curves and levels is all that was done.

Hadn't seen this before, it is awesome! I can see it in Outdoor Photographer mag. Well done on getting this shot. Find it rather incredible to see 1s and 2s in your voting line up, but this is DPC, so I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. Would have expected a higher score.

My only 10. This is a masterful shot with the seal innocently raising it's head up to ask about the type of lens the photog is using :) The DOF is perfect.
These moments are not contrived and you have to be on the ball to capture them. Excellent expectation and timing Robert. This kind of photography outstrips contrived still life / studio shots as it cannot be (re)created.

AAAcck!!! I'd pass out from the cute. Just commenting now.

Every time I click on this image I just want to hug the critter. How lucky to have witnessed this. The content of this image surpasses any other "tool" shot, as it tells a story and has an emotion. Love how the pup is looking up. Did I mention I love cute things?????

Here is my personal scoring scale with 2 points each. The idea behind is to justify the score I gave. You have all right not to agree with it. This is just my personal opinion with whatever little photography knowledge I have. Hope it helps.

- Meets the challenge - 2 out of 2
- Lighting/Exposure - 2 out of 2
- Composition - 1 out of 2
- Concept and execution - 1 out of 2
- Over all image, WOW factor - 1 out of 2

Is this the same seal that I thought was so "AWWWW-ful" in the freestudy? Looks like you had a little ham on your hands.

Beautiful shot! I love the composition of this photo (the DOF, the angle, the fact that you cropped the photographers head to make the viewer focus on the tools). Really great photo overall (I voted as soon as voting began and gave you a 9!)
