e y eby rooumComment: Perhaps a water drop refracting that dark line. Looks like the head of a tiny slotted screw but the edge is a bit irregular for that. |

Wondrousby RetroesqueComment: Looks like a bird's nest, maybe for a hummingbird. I like the use of selective depth of field to hold attention to the detailed central part. |

Prometheus's fallby jaysonmcComment: What a wonderful image: swirls of abstract masses of color capture the essence of the season, the blur speaks to the process of falling to the ground, and the colors work well together. I had this near the top and still think it deserved much higher placement. |

Trappedby hotpastaComment: I really enjoy the simplicity, with the figure and ground regularly reversing. Gives a dyamic sensation absent from most of the other entries. This serves both as an interesting semi-abstract image of fingers of ice converging on a glowing center and a detailed image of a warm colored leaf embedded in crystalized light. I had this at the top of the challenge. Appreciate hearing how much extra work went into the making. |

Black Dogby MelethiaComment: The dynamic quality of the dog with distant figures on a diagonal works well with the camera motion and excellent B&W processing. Glad to see I wasn't alone in giving this a 10. Wonderful to have it in the top ten despite being very different from the images typically up there in DPC challenges. |

hello? by LutchenkoComment: Amazing originality. Being able to see such creativity is one of the big rewards of DPC participation. |

Grasshopper Eating Lunchby woodseyComment: Use of shallow depth of field works well for the image - keeping the grasshopper and first thistle sharp, making a moderate blur for the two further thistles, and really obscuring the background. It gives a sense of three dimensionality and simplifies the composition so we pay attention to the main subject. But I would expect low votes in a challenge asking for deep depth of field. |

Passersbyby MelethiaComment: Graphic design elements all over the place to make this more than a random snap shot; I can see why you like it. First we have a strong diagonal of three guys from right lower corner, with the line picked up further along by the gal near the door. The third guy of that group stands in a paver pattern that works like ripples in a pond, helpin the eye move through unexpected parts of the image. The gal faces toward the bag-holding person, creating an implied triangle. Lines of windows, doors, sidewalk provide a geometric background to contrast with the people. Photographer with tiny camera tosses in a bit of hook for the imagination. As noted by others, the white-shirt-ear person is difficult to see (but easier if image enlarged to 400% - maybe print huge and hang in a cafe), and the fragment of guy with glasses can be mistakenly seen as going with the other fragment guy's white shirt, making him appear giant sized. |

Nine Rusty Panels on Old P9by EstimatedEyesComment: Deserves to score much higher. Amazing to have rust this even giving a feeling of modern art painting. Abstract in not having a context (I even Googled "P9" to see if it is a term everyone else knows about, only to find a Boeing airplane and a handgun, neither of which were candidates for the shot). I commented without votes, but would have given an 8. Maybe needs to hang in a gallery or museum to get proper respect. |
