Initial: There is quite a bit going on in this image, and I am wishing it was submitted even a bit larger.
Composition: This is a strong point of the image. My eye begins at the background of the hotel, turns down and right following the tip to the bottom of the tree, and continues it's arch to the fountain.
Technical: I assume this is crisp and clear as I don't see any strays or wavy lines in the lights. Good choice of aperature/shutter speed, and you must have used a tripod, or you are incredibly steady. The color balance is done well, ....
Other: I unfortuately just don't find it to be an appealing image. It is very documentary that the holidays seemed to have happened there.

Initial: I used to live in Albuquerque.. I miss the Southwest Culture.
Composition: The straight on shot makes this look flat and uninviting to me. A different angle, perspective, or maybe time of day might improve this idea.
Technical: I like the clarity and detail, however, the lighting - although soft - is adding to the flat appearance. Again, perhaps a different angle, or time of day would add interest.
Other: Unfortunately, I don't find this an interesting image.. Sorry.

| 01/11/2003 08:34:46 PM | Outback Bus Stopby PtmanComment: Critique Club Assignment
Initial: What an unusual area for me to see. I like the contrast between the color of the sky, and the browns in the grass and trees.
Composition: Nice choice to put the bus shack to one side, however I am thinking it would be better to have placed it on the right side..my eye, though at first captured by the scene beyond, keeps going around the corner and into the dark hollow of the shack and subsequently out of the picture to the left, where I have to start over by looking into the distance where the pattern repeats.
Technical: Again, the colors are wonderful.. Love the earthy feel. The clarity of detail is excellent as I can see the differences in the bark of the trees, and yet even the larger limbs of the distant tree on the hill.
Impact: This stops me, but doesn't say wow. It is somewhere in between. I think it may be because of the position of the shack...
I didn't vote on this challenge, but I would say I would have given this a 7-8. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Initial: This is very expressive.
Composition: Very well done.. my eyes stay right with the woman's closed eyes. It is a portrait about her because the man's face is away from view. The close up is important for the feeling of intimacy, however, the down side of it is that it cuts her arm off to create a free floating hand that sorta comes out of nowhere. The tilt of their heads expresses movement.
Quality: Tones and details are great. The lighting is even for the most part, however the woman's skin is a bit shiny - but that could be a makeup issue... Have the model blot with powder during a long shoot.
There are no obtrusive shadows, which is excellent.
All in all, this is a very well done photograph. It is not a portrait in the classic sense of the word (I don't think), but apparently that is okay.
The only thing I would change is her shiny skin, and somehow the position of her arm... although that would be the lesser of the two that I would pick on, since her hand is in such a loving embrace.
