The Prime Meridian Greenwichby DistantColoursComment: Originally posted by P-A-U-L: Handy location to have on your doorstep. Is that the official line? Congrats on the HM! |
Yes, it's just outside the old Greenwich Observatory. A good place to check the accuracy of the GPS data. This is what my camera recorded at the time of the shot
Latitude 51,28.6196N
Longitude 0,0.0788W
If you put the coordinates into Google Map you'll see how far out the camera's location was. The picture was a shot of "The Avenue" just south of the Observatory. Message edited by author 2020-09-25 05:55:14. |

Vortexby DistantColoursComment: Originally posted by GolferDDS: Interesting. Keeps my attention. I’m interested to know your technique. |
I half filled a large glass jug with water. I backlit it with a flash. I spun the water with a small battery operated hand whisk. I removed the whisk and took the picture straight away. |

London Bridge by DistantColoursComment: Originally posted by marnet: Is this a merge of 2 images or were these buses parked on the bridge? |
It's a single shot. I was lucky that the traffic stopped for just the right 30 seconds. |

Let's Do Itby DistantColoursComment: Originally posted by roz: Darren .. i absolutely loved this in voting .. and am so glad you got in the top 5 ..
its brilliant ..
and i was interested to know the lens you used for this shot .. Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM .. can you be quite far away from the insects and zoom in .??.
with the macro lenses i have used .. canon and olympus .. i have to be very close to the insect .. i'd love the ability to be a lot further away .. i dont think the mirrorless omd em1 Mk2 lenses have that ability .. :(
and just realized the breakdown of votes and Sara's comment .. very disappointing seeing those low votes .. as this really is exceptional .. :) |
Thank you, I’m pleased you liked the picture.
I was about a metre away if I recall correctly. I think I had an extension tube on my lens. This is how I’m able to get a fairly large magnification without getting too close. |
