A Simple Love

This one gets the only 10 I'm giving out in this challenge. It's the simplicity of the image and the baby's eyes that have me hooked. The perfect smoothness of their skin contrasts beautifully with the only other texture in the image, the unruly hair. You should be very proud of this exquisite image.

Wonderful tonal range! Could be a text-book example on why less saturation sometimes works better than more.

The texture of her freckles and the moss is also a great combination. The unruly hair is a nice touch, totally appropriate for the natural surroundings. Not thrilled about the bland expression, but can't think of a more appropriate one. 9

One of the best studio shots in this challenge. The low-key lighting is intruiging and the strong diagonal composition is very effective. The tilt to the image is allso a great idea, although I find I prefer cropping a bit off the top and right to prevent the feel that she is sliding out of the frame! The glints on her toenails are an excellent touch, but makes me want to see glints from her eyes too, to keep the symmetry. 9

A lovely image that makes excellent use of natural surroundings (in contrast to the many studio shots in this challenge). The contrast is a bit high for my taste, and although I'm definitely a fan of B&W, I can imagine this being even better in muted color (contrasting the skin color with a reflected blue sky?) 8

Your homage to the old masters is admirable. I bet that took a lot of very careful posing and light adjusting! It may be my monitor, but the highlight on her thigh seems to have a warmer tone than any other part of the image (which would mean this isn't a duotone). Also, the transition into shadow seems a little too rapid, maybe the result of over-adjustment of curves? But I realize just how hard this is, you should be proud of what you have accomplished. 8

You certainly win the price for most innovative lighting! The pose doesn't quite work for me. I like the strong diagonal composition, but I would prefer to see either less or more of her face and likewise either her entire leg or a tighter crop. But the light-painting really is marvelous! 8

Very well lit and posed! The muscle definition and skin texture is just right. I'm not sure he needs that much empty space above his head, and the black frame against the nearly black background doesn't really help. But this is still my favorite of the male nudes. 9

Very well done, great lighting and foreground/background contrast. The pose is lovely, but I keep thinking she is unbalanced. I don't think it's the pose, but rather the empty space in front of her. My guess is that vertical full-body framing would have turned this very good photo into a superb one. 8

Very original! A full-body pose that made your model look small against the stark white wall (and ribbons) might have even more impact, but is obviously logistically harder to accomplish. Excellent work - 8

Very funky! I would have edited out that dark line that runs across the abdomen, and maybe used a less squishy surface (so the model wouldn't sink so much into it), but the basic concept is great!
