Beesby JoshuaMComment: I'm only seeing one bee in this shot...My eye goes to the buds first and then the bee. Maybe if there was closer focus on the bee? |

Half Past Nineby Dax-Comment: Nice colors and interesting abstraction of line and form created from the areas of sharp and soft focus. I don't love it but I appreciate it. |

Blue Appleby joynimComment: This looks kind of messy and cluttered with the frayed ribbon, the loop, and the silver glitter on the ornament. The greyish blurred bacgkround doesn't do much to enhance this object. It just sort of looks like a blue, sort of glittery lump with a phallus protruding from the middle. I find it weirdly unpleasant. Sorry. |

Bright diamondsby KrisbyComment: I don't understand the inclusion of the wall in the upper right corner of the frame. It appears to be the sharpest part of this image. This angle is a bit extreme for this type of object. This is all just too monochromatic. |

Christmas spaceby remboComment: I like the arrangement. I think it was a mistake to crop off the bottom of the foreground ornament. The background looks a bit grey and dingy to me. |

Backlitby welcherComment: Very striking. I'm wondering how many people are going to interpret this as creative use of shallow DOF.
I don't profess to have a lot of technical know-how but this seems more like creative use of high contrast and high key lighting. I guess to achieve this fading into whiteness effect you had to start by blurring the subject a bit? But couldn't that also be the result of really extreme highlighting? I really like the photo quite a bit. I just am not getting shallow DOF from it. The bangs look a bit blurred in the front but I feel like I'm grasping to make this meet the challenge. I'm guessing you are going to get plenty of high votes from people who don't mind shoehorning a photo to fit a challenge if they really like the shot. I'm not really sure how to vote on this. |

Let It Snowby woodseyComment: Cute. I'd like to see a less shiny surface and I'd like a seamless background. |

Wide Openby dogzComment: This is very strange and surreal. I think I get how you did it (is that George Washington or Thomas Jefferson?) Very creative. I can't imagine how most voters will like it (it looks a bit arty for most tastes on this site) but it certainly makes use of shallow DOF (the way I interpret it anyway). I'm not sure if I like it or am just responding to the unusual quality. It certainly has me thinking about it, anyway which is more than I can say for the majority of DPC offerings. To me, it looks like it would make a cool album cover. I'm still not sure I actually like this image but I'm scoring high for meeting the challenge, and for originallity, creativity, and technical soundness. |

Kid-made Trufflesby shadeeuaComment: This just looks very unappealing. The lighting is very flat (almost looks like flash) and the candy just looks sad and kind of turd-like. I'm sorry to be so blunt but that was my first reaction when I saw this. Food shots are really difficult. It takes a certain kind of lighting and set design expertise (I certainly don't claim to have any) to make it look appealing on camera. Setting the candy (or cookies?) up on an attractive dish would be a start. Maybe in nice little foil cups? The aluminum foil looks pretty haphazard and adds quite a bit of glare. |
