A Grand Gentleman

While I believe an animal picture without humans can be candid, I think the animal needs to be captured doing something unexpected or particularly expressive and engaging---in other words, candid. This goose is kind of just standing there. I don't think this really meets the challenge.

As a nature photo, it has some merit although I would like to see sharper detail overall, and more of the detail in the dark area of its face. I think framing (or cropping) the goose so that its head is a bit more off center would be helpful.

This has a surreal quality to me. I really like it.

I'm not seeing this as an exploration of texture so much as pattern. As a candid it works well for me but I don't think it is really suitable for this challenge.

I'm not crazy about the sepia but this shows great skin and hair texture and his eyes are penetrating. His face looks slightly distorted to me.

Very dramatic color and great detail. I love the contrast the black background gives.

A very charming candid portrait. In terms of texture this has a nice range--the stone, the boy's very youthful skin, and his spikey hair. One of my tops.

Very nice. Not crazy about what appears to be selective desaturation though.

Eek! I have pretty great skin for my age (38) so this isn't exactly my nightmare (mine always involove losing teeth). This is really well done. Great exposure and excellent image quality. Even though it's a phony set-up, it makes sense and works asthetically outside the challenge. I will be surprised if this doesn't ribbon.

Very funny and great textural detail. I think I recognize this fellow from other photos. How do you get him to pose so well? My cats are usually very uncooporative. :D
