Faces of Lightby bongoComment: Interesting trick. The central subject is a teensy bit out of focus looking on my monito but this got high marks from me. |

At the concertby heidaComment: Great rim lighting of the audience members, particulalry because you captured the guy in the front with his hand in "rock" formation. Really nice composition. The negative black space is used very effectively. Good job! |

myself 10 seconds from nowby ltjmanComment: I like the simple background for this old trick. The pose and simple monochromatic clothing also unifies the photo. Good job! |

light sourcesby anshalin1Comment: Good use of tilted format. This is a format that should be used with care and thought and I think it works very effectively here. The reasons:
A: The background is so simple; just the wisps of trailing clouds.
B:The diagonal emphasizes the buildings strong lines and the dramatic shadows.
Good work! |

The sleeping pinetreeby tp-fcpComment: Really interesting subject. I love the soft orange lighting sillouhetting the middle trees and the side lighting that highlights the main tree. Great placement of the main subject. |

Simplicityby trainComment: Beautiful lighting. It captures the wonderful color and texture of this single petal. I particularly like the backlighting rimming the ruffled edge of the petal at the top. I like the yellow against this black background. Good work! |

Singin' in Spotlightby unicumComment: Good capture of the skin tones in a difficult lighting situation. The man's face has quite bright highlights but this is effective for this shot for at least two reasons:
A: It separates him from the dark background yet there is still good detail in his skin and hair. We can see the texture of his beard and dreds.
B: It places him as the main focal point. The star, so to speak.
Her face has much flattering lighting for a woman (except for perhaps the shiny spots on her nose) and the softer light puts her a bit more in the background despite their equal distance to the camera. Her hair is dark and blends invisibly into the background, placing her firmly in the secondary role of audience.
The soft beam of light makes an interesting connection between the two. Excellent! One of my earliest top picks! |

Ayaby Tara_JohnsonComment: She is so beautiful and jubliant it is hard not to be drawn into this portrait. I think you will suffer in the voting for the blown out highlights and graininess but I happen to love both for this shot. She is truly bathed in light. I don't know if it was a conscious choice to have the model wear black and white but it works great. One of my top picks. Good luck! |

A Carnie's Life For Meby DefyTimeComment: Great color in the blurred ferris wheel. Nice focus on the foreground subject and the colors echo the wheel. A really fun and effective use of blurring. One of my top picks. Good luck! |

Moon and street lightby BrooklynsbridgeComment: Beautiful and moody. I love the grainy soft-focus. You will likely suffer in the voting for this but good for you for making the choice. The subtle gradiation in tone from light to dark is so effective. One of my top picks. Good luck! |
