Horriblly unflattering flash-lighting.

Very strange that this idea's cropped up twice - though i think differently done this time.

The very low contrast here doesn't help - it seems to be all midtones, no whites, no blacks. Composition is odd - why crop out the end of the needle? Such very simple subjects almost always rely on great technical work for their impact: try having a careful look at the impact of more directional lighting - this seems to be absolutely flat light - like in an office, or showroom. There's no shadows at all, no depth, texture.

Congratulations Matt - had to get a blue onto your profile sooner or later. Great work.

Thoughtfully presented, and intriguing use of DOF to blur wat one would expect to be the real strength of this shot. I like the way it moves from a believable world - the texture of the in focus glass/metal - to the purely abstract over on the left; and the colours are good. The detail of that hook pulls far too much attention I think - oh, it's the edge of the filament, isn't it? - not convinced it should only have been partially shown, not sure what that achieves.

Jeesh, Charon has a spare boat? Beautiful shot - like the near graphic quality given by the very still water and that tongue of land. Can't quite imagine the borders of hell looking so peaceful, however :-)

I'm wonddering why you've shot it from this very ordinary angle, and whether a lower POV would help (my feeling: yes, enormously). Somewhat clutterd composition too, though I do like the attack hippo.

Would love to see this with an even longer exposure - you'd probably need major ND filters to get that slow though - but the curves of the moving traffic would emphasise even more the yellow box at the junction. Intersting shot.

have to presume this comesw from a very low res camera, else the pixelation is the result of some very bizarre processing. Not sure it would hold much interst even if perfectly reproduced here.

I presume that reflection of a patch of light is the subject here. At first I thought it might echo one of the shapes in that slightly out of focus graphic, but it doesn't - only perhaps the lower curve of it, and I can't say I find anything particularly interesting in that. 1
