nice job on this photo, it's a really great grasp of what the church really looks like, the lighting brings out pretty random aspects of it, like the background of the church, and the view from the ground makes it look so big, good job!

Thanks guys for the comments and the votes. This has been a shot I've been wanting to take since I first saw the church lit up. When I saw the sacred places challenge, I figured "What the hey.. might as well go take a picture of it now." This particular shot was from the first evening I tried, and to be honest, I was hoping to get it a bit lighter in the sky.

I went back the next evening to attempt to do that and captured this:

I think the first is the stronger of the two, but the exposure on the tower is better on the second.

A great example of how allowing more editing would help -- I'd apply a perspective correction to straighten out the building on the far right (and the lampposts on the left, but they don't bother me as much). Everything else looks greta.

This is a beautiful church, almost reminds me of Notre Dame! The lighting is very well done and the clarity of the shot is amazing. The only thing that could have made this a perfect 10 or raised it to a 9 is a slightly tighter crop, less leaves on the bottom and the trees on the right are a bit distracting. An 8

Good shot. I might conside cropping the left side just enought to get rid of that one light closest to the camera.

Wonderful clarity here! I like the composition and the inclusion of the other lights, though I do wish you'd have moved your camera a little to right to get the entirety of the church. COlors and lighting are marvelous!

Excellent, love this picture. Keep coming back, looking at it and appreciating it. The details in the tower is brilliant, the colours all around in the leaves, the trees, the stone work and even the sky. No hesitation in giving a 10

One of my favorites this time out! I love the capture of the tower and how well it is placed in the image. The ground level placement of your Camera also added so much to the majestic feel of this Church. I know impossible to get around but i wish those trees were not present at the very rear of this shot. still works for me:) Good luck 9

well shot, well exposed, and a great time - the dusk light gives just enough defintion in the sky to keep it interesting

Excellent work. The exposure here is right on, and I like how the tallest part is also the brightest - it really attracts the viewer's attention.

Big big shot. super clear- super interesting. I don't even mind the street lamp glare- because the color of the inner sanctum lights is so pleasantly green.

The best church night sht of the challenge! The perspective gives drama. The lighting isn't too harsh, it's actually soothing. Keep it up! 9

The contrasts of the dark blue sky and the orange toned leaves and light are a perfect mix as a surrounding for your church. It gives your image a lot of life and charachter. Had you only had the church alone the effect wouldn't have been as good as it is here. Top marks for this one (10)

Exposure was done perfectly. You were able to capture the great detail in the church with the incredible lighting. The great autumn colors on the ground and in the trees. The blue hues in the sky help to give it a warming feeling.

The gold of the leaves and the lights comliments the dark dark blue of the sky with the floodlit tower inbetween - wow! I like the golden branched framing hte pic on the left - wish we could see a bit more to the right to finish the line of the roof...9

great composition and I especially love the way you got down low to get a good aspect of the fallen leaves in. Just a shame you hadn't snapped a little sooner when the clouds were a little moodier over to the right ! Perhaps im wrong on the direction of them but had they been over teh church / cathedral it would have been a really picturesque moody sort of image. good job - 8
