Of course, I forgot about motorcycles in mid-air ... :-(
Wonderful work, as ever.

Unexplored Undergroundby redmoonComment: As there's no mention of it in your comments, I strongly suggest that you go, as soon as you possibly can (like on the way home this evening), to the World Press Photo 04 exhibition in the foyer of the Festival Hall - I absolutely promise you you won't be disappointed. Head for the furthest right-hand section if you go in from the terrace level, where you'll find some of the work of Raul Belinchon.
Honestly, you really MUST do this.

Rush Hour by moodvilleComment: Highly competent shooting ... I just can't believe it's been voted into first place. Well, I can, but...
Every now and again I get confused, and think that dpc might have something to do with imagination and vision. More fool me.
Apologies for posting this on your photo - but I think it needs saying, and I'm sure you have enough congratulations to keep you happy.

Specks and the Universe IIby zeuszenComment: Highly reminiscent of the work of Zeus Zen, only I'm moderately convinced he would have presented it in black and white. Very interesting work: not completely convinced about keeping the flying bird right of frame, but the water there is definitely a useful compositional element - difficult decision, I'd guess. |

Is it cheese?by toddheadComment: Seems to be only just in focus - and this shot absolutely requires focus, as there's nothing else to hold the eye here. A partial moon makes, in my view, for a more interesting photo, and it has the potential to show at least some texture, which is impossible in a shot of the full moon. |

Babyby JackoComment: I've been avoiding this shot :-) Looks like the baby itself has taken it - the angle of the arms - and it really emphasises the eyes, to a creepy extent almost. It could almost be a clever montage of an adult and a baby's portraits. |

Pine trailby Dim7Comment: I'll be really interested to see how this scores - it's the kind of terrritory I've tried to shoot for myself, but with no real success: I think it perhaps requires more mystical light, or perhaps fog or mist, to give a sense of drama and depth. One of those scenes that is quite pleasing to experience, but somehow never photographs convincingly without a lot of work. |

New Horizonsby silverleafComment: I've been working on photographing these things myself recently, and have never yet found the 'full cloud' effect very promising as a photo (and I'm afraid you haven't chaged my mind). I'm certain there is some interest to be found there, but still it remains a mystery - I think perhaps those spines of the seeds are too fine to really show any shape through light, and that doesn't make promising territory for photography. I do like tthe DOF here though, and there is a certain near-abstract quality to that 'cloud' that is quite pleasant. All the intersting shots I've seen have involved heads with at least half of the seeds removed - I can recommend trying that approach. |

Fresh New Lookby khkaiComment: Good detail, though I can't see that the centred framing does much for this one. My main gripe would be with your greyscale though - the poor thing looks grey rather than any shade of white, which works against your title, certainly. |
