Three shedsby MelethiaComment: One of my favorite places I've been! Walked right through there and took the train up the mountain to the gondola and then up to the Zugspitz. Loved every moment of it!
Love your image! Thanks for the journey down memory lane! Stayed at Edelwise (sp?) just before the Grand Opening...Garmisch is awesome!!
Love it!!! |

Zeusby RedDotComComment: Originally posted by Melethia: Wonderful portrait! I keep trying to get a shot like this of mine, but neither one will ever sit still long enough. The minute they hear the sound of the camera focusing, they move! |
I know exactly what you mean! I spent a half hour on my belly waiting for Zeus to notice all of the birds in the back yard. Once he did, he was a captive subject for me. At my new house, I've put a bird feeder in the back yard to acctract the birds to the yard and therefore attract the 'kidz' to the windows. Good subject matter for the b/w a week! Cheers! |

Daisy-0031by RedDotComComment: Originally posted by Melethia: Really an excellent control of the exposure - very hard to do well with white/light colors. A very good conversion - mind adding how you did it? And very crisp, very sharp. |
Melethia, I set up a black foam board left/right about a foot away each side and a black drop cloth about 3 feet back. The daisy was on my breakfast table w/an incandescent ceiling fixture about 3 feet above it. I put a scrim across the top of the two foam boards to soften the light and act like a soft box, set a custom white balance of the light from the flower's position and metered w/a hand held light meter for the exposure. Metered in aperature mode (f11) to keep in the lens' sweet spot and focused on the front edge/petal (verified w/DoF preview).
Not sure I can properly describe the CS3 process except to say I was following textbook examples of converting an image to b/w. I'm trying to learn/teach myself so I'm just following recommended steps. Wish I could be of more help - hopefully this will be the case soon!

Graveyardby kolasiComment: I think this tells a story - something about how the outside world continues on but the textures and tones within the cemetary walls are much more beautiful.
Personally, I love the bottom half of the image from the top of the fence down - I'd work on the sky and the lightness of the buildings.

Week 4by chris48083Comment: Cool idea! I agree a lighter background may help out and a focused 'Redo' would be nice. Perfect example of when to use your DoF preview - if your camera has one. Love the idea though, this would look great if the keys were a Valentine's Red! |

Mill Reflection - WK04by DJWoodwardComment: I like it rotated because the shadow on what now would seem to be a stone wall realy makes you wonder what is going on in this image. I love reflective images like this. Great tone work and composition IMO. Thanks! |

01 Misty Flightby SandyPComment: So when do you have time to eat? At your location, I'd starve! I'd have to put my camera down and go back to work to eat my lunch!
Love the image, centered subjects do work at times. I love the softness of the background - but my eye wants to see just a bit more contrast in the egret. Not to say it needs it... having a rich black somewhere is something I seek and at times to a fault. This is an excellent image.
So I now live in your town! If you guys ever go out on a photo safari around here, please feel free to contact me if you're looking for extras... if you don't mind being seen w/a Nikon guy that is. LOL!
Thanks for your nice comment on my daisy image. I got some awesome feedback and people are very kind. More later... Cheers!
