Yup, it is the stockings in the sky, it is actually visible across the whole image in the larger resolution version. I don't actually think it is a true moire/ aliasing effect, as you are actually seeing the pattern in the stockings, not a low spatial frequency sampled version of it.

Very cute and the branches make for a great framing device - Congratulations on the well deserved 7.7!

Soft Spikes

I like the incongruity of the subject matter, given the soft focus effect used. The tonal range is excellent, throwing all of the focus on the well exposed spikes. The duotone dark green is effective in furthering this too and the lines and flow is subtle and interesting. I love the soft glow to the spines.

Critique Club: This meets the challenge well, with strong leading lines off to infinity (hence hitting the challenge spot on obviously)

However, I feel its like a stage waiting for the actors to appear - someone walking with a red jacket, or riding a horse through the scene - maybe a car driving along. All these leading lines bring you in, but don't take you anywhere - there's no payback. So while it is right on target for the challenge, I think it needs something more as a picture in general.

The time of day/ amount of shade has meant you've blown the sky highlights. Also - the wide open aperture means the whole scene is a bit soft - something around f8 would have given you much more depth of field and kept the detail in the leaves - though you'd probably have needed a tripod.

There's a whole lot of nothing going on here. Reminds me of home.

Re: your email : I think you might have taken my comment as negative - I actually quite like the barren, wind-swept feel. It does remind me of the west coast of Scotland. The fact that you haven't let anything disrupt the feel of the shot is a good thing in my mind - very tranquil (I gave it a 7)

good composition, but I'd rather have seen the upper window not cropped. Good exposure given the conditions too. some people would have added some focal point or needed interest.
