I think this would have been better in color -- as it stands now it is far too busy for B&W. There's just not enough contrast between your subject and background. 5

Greets from the Critique Club!

Initial Impression:
Interesting, though uninspiring due to the lighting.

Challenge:
This meets the challenge through the combination of image and title. I wish I could see the connection between the pic and the challenge without the title, but with this subject it's rather hard.

Composition:
Placing the barn where you did in the picture is a good idea though I would have liked it more if it was on the other side of the frame (Leaning into the picture as opposed to out of the picture).

Technical:
This is my biggest complaint - the lighting is fairly flat and pretty uninspiring. The midday sun is harsh on subjects and here it's no exception. Early morning or late afternoon sunlight is often the best to work with. My other complaint is the focus feels rather soft.

Overall:
Solid idea, technical issues let you down. You should go back to the same location near sunset or sunrise and take some more photographs.. this is an interesting subject! Show it off!

Greets from the Critique Club!

Initial Impression:
Bad light, a bit of a snapshot feel, but great emotion and novel take on the theme.

Challenge:
I think this meets the challenge well, in an original but still fairly obvious way.

Composition:
I think this shot works well centered, though the biggest difference would be made by getting down on the dogs level and shooting from there. Eye contact is very important with animal shots and it's hard to get that contact from above the animal! Don't be afraid to get down in the mud with her!

Technical:
A bit more contrast added in post processing would have cleaned this shot up and made it more interesting visually.

Overall:
Great idea and humor, good but not great photo. I really liked this shot in the challenge and I scored it rather high just because it was a fun picture. A bit more creativity with the angle would have netted you a higher finish for sure!

Thanks Journey and all the other voters!

I had a different crop of this that left out the right side of the picture, thus eliminating the distracting white flower, but it elimineated much of the yellow backgroud on that side of the picture too. Since my main desire was to show the contrast between the flower and the backdrop, I decided not to crop it.

Glad people looked past the flaws and saw what I was aiming at!

Controversial subject, but nice picture. The use of sepia works well here. The roach on the left is perfect, the one on the right is a bit distracting. Perhaps just the one would have made this a great pic! Still admirable job.

Interesting take on the challenge. Seems like the focus is a bit off but I really like the composition. The bag on the left somewhat spoils the clean lines.

Nice lighiting and stop action. The little bit of red in the reflection is particularly effective. Good job!

The main subject here feels isolated. I think cropping about half the foreground out would have been a good thing. Good reflections and understated use of colours!

Interesting coloration. Is this real or has the hue been shifted? Either way, good score.
