Back to comment. I'm afraid your score will suffer on this image because the subject matter is not the strongest for a Transportation challenge. Technically this photo is pretty well done. The headset does blend into the background a bit at the bottom of the image and the bright spot at the bottom left is distracting. You might want to try cropping the bottom part of the image until the bright spot dissappears.

Back to comment. I'm sure other commentors have mentioned that this image is a bit on the dark side. Although the subject meets the challenge, there is nothing in this picture to hold the view's attention for any length of time.

Back to comment. The subject you choose is not the strongest subject for this challenge. The image lacks a strong focal point to draw the viewer's attention. If you look at the image closely, all of the rule of third nodes have nothing with real detail to command attention. The focus isn't the best, as the only place I can find that is sharply focused is the edges of the green car and since that is located near the edge of the image, it leads the viewer's eyes out of the image instead of holding their interest.

Have to bump this to a 10. I assume you took this while riding in a hot air ballon. Wow!

Back to comment. I like the lighting and the color of your image. I think your score is going to suffer a bit because of the noise and the centering of the main subject.

The subject matter meets the challenge and is interesting in it's own right but there are several issues with this picture that are going to hurt your score. The shadows are harsh and hide all of the detail in what ever he is riding. The background is busy and all the signs indicate he should be heading in the opposite direction. Basically, the image looks like you stumbled across the subject matter and took a quick snapshoot..

I like the shadow of the bike and the rack on the roadway and colors look very natural. There is a bit too much negative space on the right that doesn't really add to the image. There are two solutions to correct the negative space. First, give this image a square crop and just remove it. Second, this would require reshooting so not as likely, include more of the bus in the image and maybe a rider boarding if possible.

Back to comment. You did an excellent job of composing this picture, with plenty of roadway towards the back of the image to show where the child it headed towards. This picture could benefit from a little sharpening, as it is hard to find a good sharply focused edge on the bike rider. Nice job and I̢۪m bumping this up.

Hello from the Critique Club

I didn't vote for the Zen challenge so this is the first time I've taken a look at your image. I think the comments given during the challenge give a good summary as to why your image scored where it did. Overall the image quality is very good but I don̢۪t think the voters felt this fit the Zen description very well. One commenter said the silence was too loud, meaning that the image is too busy and complicated. Another thought this would fit into an architecture challenge very well. Both are saying that this wasn̢۪t the best subject to choose for a Zen challenge.

On the technical side, the lighting, composition and cropping of this image are very well done. I̢۪ll make a couple of suggestions on what you could do different in post processing but they are based purely on my personal taste and not on any shortcomings I see in your image. First you might want to try making the sky a little bit bluer. Second, it would be interesting to see what a little more contrast would do for this image. Both of these could be accomplished using a combination of levels, curves, saturation or contrast and brightness.

I really like this image and I̢۪m glad it got assigned to me for review. If you would like to discuss it further, feel free to PM me.

Back to comment. It is obvious that this shot was taken from ground level. However, this image does not present a strong Up From The Ground Perspective. This is partially related to the horizontal format of the image. You also have some technical issues that are going to hurt your score. First, the white balance gives this image a very unappealing yellow cast. Second, the image is noisy, which causes the image to look flat and grainy. And finally, the subject matter is less than interesting. These look more like Condo garages than Vegas.
