peas.in.a.podby syko_lanaComment: A nice subject for the challenge but I̢۪m not really thrilled with the focus being on the front lip of the pea pod instead of on the peas themselves. It does make the peas appear to be a secondary subject in this image. |

My Old Pea-anoby HoochieComment: I like your play on words but the image has a couple of technical shortcomings. First, my eyes had trouble finding a place within the image to settle on, as the image has a soft focus and nothing really presents itself as the prime focus point. The sharpest focus appears to be towards the back part of the piano on the folding cover for the piano keys. Did you sharpen the image after reducing the size? I̢۪m also kind of curious as to why you converted this into black and white. Did you have a color balance issue? I would think that the black and white piano keys would have contrasted nicely with the green peas. But as a black and white, the image could stand a bit more contrast to help the peas look like they were a richer, darker, green color before the conversion. |

Pea Pride Paradeby NiteseadComment: Definitely a unique entry for this challenge but I'm afraid it suffers from a couple of technical shortcomings. First, I like how you used depth of focus to lead the viewer's eyes towards the back of the image. The trouble is that the multicolored background causes the viewer's eyes to continue past the last sharply focused pea. The multicolored background also reflects a bit off the reflective base that the peas are placed upon, which promotes a flat look to the image. Most of these issues could have been prevented if you had used a dark solid covered background. |

Eat This One.by Blue_Moon_CatComment: A cute idea but the image has a snapshot look to it that doesn't score well at DPC. Part of which is caused by the lack of sharp focus on the baby's eyes. It also would have helped if you had included the baby's entire arm in the image, as it doesn't really add to the picture in its present form. I would also suggest that next time you look at what objects are in the background and see which angle would be best to shoot at to eliminate as many distractions as possible. |

Crazy can openerby marvinComment: No peas in the picture. I think your score will suffer for that even if your intent was to be a bit out of the box. Overall the image is not too bad and I like her facial expression. It could use a little fill light on the right to tone down the shadow by the nose and mouth. You could have did a little burning to help brighten her teeth also. Message edited by author 2006-08-22 13:21:26. |

Burnby patrinusComment: Hello from the Critique Club:
As you can tell from the comments during the challenge, you have an exceptional image. On the technical side, I would be foolish to even attempt to tell you how to improve your image. I see you had expectations for a ribbon and the quality of your image was worthy of one. However, I think your score reflects the number of high quality actions shots entered in this challenge and the fact that your image didn't have a lot of physical action to it. I can't say enough how much I like this image and I wish you the best in future challenges.

Peas Please!!!by squidviciousComment: It is easy to see that you took some time to plan your entry; unfortunately, your image has a couple of technical shortcomings that are going to hurt your score. First, the peas are not sharply focused. I'm not sure if this is from resizing the image or from camera shake. Most members use USM after resizing as a standard practice. Second, the background color seems a little off. I̢۪m not sure if this is a color balance issue or if you intentionally choose a greenish color for the background. Either way, a white background would have helped the green color of the peas look richer. |

War and Peasby jcolosiComment: It is easy to see that you took some time to plan your entry and I think your idea is very creative. Unfortunately, your image has a couple of technical shortcomings that are going to hurt your score considerably. The primary issue is that the image lacks saturation and looks a little dark. A little adjustment with levels or curves would help the plate look whiter and give the vegetables more pop. After levels/curves, I would suggest boosting the saturation to bring out the colors. The perspective you used to shoot this photo looks intentional but it really doesn't make sense to me. I can't help thinking that at that angle, the peas should be rolling off the plate. I guess I've been an engineer too long. |

NoT oNLy PeaS are GreeN !by MeShoKhaNComment: Back to comment: The peas in the foreground definitely meet the challenge but the image has a couple of technical shortcomings. First, I like the composition of this image, as the solid background works well with the peas and the green teapot. However, there is an object on the left in the background that is only partially there and really adds nothing to the composition. Second, the lighting on green teapot is very good; the lighting on the peas is harsh, especially on the white granular objects (ice? salt?). Lastly, as with the lighting, the focus on the teapot is pretty good but the focus on the peas leaves something to be desired. If you critically analyze your image, you will see that the main subject, the peas, is not featured very well in this photo. |
