Hair today...by johnmComment: There is a wonderful humor in this image, and I believe that the majority of people (at least those over a certain age) have done this exact thing in one way or another. It is the familiar reference that I think most people, myself included, relate to, and which is why the impression that the image leaves surpasses any flaws that may be in the shot. In the end I dont think it matters if this or that is out of place or anything else. What it delivers to the viewer and leaves as a lasting impression is a (hopefully) happy memory, which is exactly what the challenge was trying to do. |

1860's Wagon Wheelby DCThiessenComment: I like this as a wonderfully dated image. The contrasts are great, which with black and white is so very important. Compositionally it is great, the lines and curves leading the eye naturally around the image. It doesnt really conjure up any nostalgic feeling from me personally, but I'm sure it may with some people. Excellent photograph. |

Opposedby jimmythefishComment: It's a little dark, but it captures the anticipation of action very well. The image is very clear, the focus is great, and I have to admit that the little cloud of dust near her foot and by the ball really makes the photo. Very nicely captured. |

Bowie vs Westwood: 1st down Bowie!by GordonComment: Having the helmet and upper torso of the 'main' player be in focus and the rest slightly out of it works well for this image. I'm not an expert of sports photography, and admit to not even reading much of the sports pages, but most of the images I recall always seem to be a select few players (perhaps it's a compositional thing), however, the fact that the frame is crowded by players emphasises the rush of the 'main' player. His struggle is obvious, the expression on his face suggests it, and the guy behind him looks like he's coming right for him too. This is a shot that makes me want to know what happened next, which would probably be explained in an accompanying article. It clearly demonstrates action, and dirty, strenous action at that. Very nicely captured. |

Blocked Shotby jab119Comment: The expression on their faces is great, although it's the kid in the middle that really makes the shot. His facial expression and body language really tells the story, and it looks like it is going to hurt. I admit that the title does seem to help explain the shot a little, but standalone it is obvious what could be happening. The image itself is very clear, nicely sharp, vibrant, and a wonderful capture of action. |

Screen Pass (This is not cropped or posed ... just lucky.) by sigs10Comment: I can understand your fear of people thinking it was posed but what a shame to do that to your title :( Anyways... the image itself is great! Very clear, compositionally good, the capture of action is superb. I especially like the expression on his face and the tension in his muscles. It certainly tells a story, although it looks like he safely made the catch. Another good thing (although it doesnt have any real merit) is that you have the perfect space at the top and on the left for a magazine title and blurb. I could see this on the cover of a magazine. Very nicely caught (pun intended!) |

Off The Lip by ScottKComment: The sharpness is really what makes this stand out. It's very clear, the capture of action is superb, and the composition works well. He's in a position where it also makes you wonder if he's going to take a nosedive into the water at any second. It tells a story but also makes you want to know what happened next. Something that a sports shot in a newspaper/magazine would encourage people to read in an accompanying article. Very nicely shot. |

Wind Surfingby agwrightComment: The sharpness of the image is really what stands out. the fact that he's close enough to see his face, even though it is slightly shadowed, is good. Compositionally it is appealing, although shame the entire wave break/splash wasnt in the frame. An excellent image and wonderful capture of sport action. |

[Sports] Quenchby EddyGComment: Maybe it's just me, and maybe I'm weird, but what I like most about this shot is that it seems he's holding up his pinky finger. A big burly football player and yet he's lifting up his pinky. The seeming dichotomy of the image is what creates the appeal to me. |

Carefull with that axe, Eugeneby rhipsterComment: It's good to see some humor in some of these shots! I like the textured background, the coloring of the bark and axe are good, and compositionally it is visually appealing. About the only thing I dont really care for is the border. In this particular photograph I feel like it invades my viewing of the photograph, possibly because the crop confines the eyes to that the entire shot and the border distracts from the areas where I need to look - if that makes sense. |
