Very good interpretation. One of the best inanimate - non-human content - photos of the challenge.

That image is awful. But that's the requirement, right? It evokes a terrible feeling.

Is there a richness in desolation? There must be because photographers often seek it out to depict. In this image there is some sort of richness. Desolation in my mind is not rich, it is poor and deprived in spirit (and in all the things such as colour, tone, texture etc which symbolize spirit). It is, if you will, pseudo-photographer's-desolation. 8 because we all live accoring to these weird rules ;-)

Desolate? but rich in colour, contrast and tone. It defies the definition but is desolate. Not the sort of desolate one gets in Brooklyn where canals are so polluted they catch on fire. Brooklyn has both desolation of colour, of spirit, and even evokes that feeling. However, I think the accuracy of the feeling your photo depicts is applicable.

Nice idea. The hand is on the too pink and hydrated side to have died of thirst. A little processing might have rectified that flaw. But otherwise a good idea.

Alone indeed. Grey in mood, if not blue. Rich in texture and tone. But not desolate.

Too rich in textures and colour to be anything like desolate. Maybe a bit poisonous looking though.
