This is a shot I have thought about doing for emotive purposes for almost a year now. Finally a challenge that gives me the chance to see if I can get my point across...we shall see

After challenge thoughts: Wow! this is a new personal best for me with my new camera. Thanks everyone for all the great comments. This shot is set up but I had got the idea to do this after my niece lost her mother last easter. Next time I will try to improve this and not make the blue so strong. I actually did a lighter version but i didnt think it pushed that "over the top/nothing left" feeling that I was trying to convey as well as this version did(for me at least)

looks like a flash was used.

Good idea but the blue is a little overpowering.

powerful picture, i like the concept, I just wish the color balance would have been better. I see you're attempting to make a statement with the blue but I feel it's distraction IMHO

I already voted a while ago, now I'm back for commenting. I gave this picture a 10. I think it conveys the meaning well. Made me quite depressed to tell the truth. I just hope this was a setup shot for the childs sake.

This is a tear jerker. I am not sure I love the blue tone that engulfs this image, I might like it more if it was toned down. IMO this one could win a ribbon sometime if the post was a bit diffrent.

Hey Smile nice shot, the blue in this lends to a great mood

I really like this image, but I am not sold on the blue tone. I don't mind it, I just think I would prefer it in B&W. Really like the soft feel though

Wow, the blue adds to the feeling of cold death, and almost of ashes. While I usually cringe and foam at the mouth at the American flag and it's worship, I've still given you a 10. Beautiful picture. Very sad.

this says disconsolate to me more than desolation. No matter - unless its really far from the challenge topic I am not deducting points. Its an interesting image but I'm not pleased with the background or the strength of the blue. I also believe you could crop the top to the flas and not miss anything but that it would create a much more intimate image. Right now I just fly out of the top... 6

That image is awful. But that's the requirement, right? It evokes a terrible feeling.

I really like the image, and it fits the challenge. However, I did not care for the blue. Sorry 8
