Psalm 3:3by Harmakis7Comment: Greetings from the Critique club. I'm going to point out a few things that I like about the photo first. I like the focus the clarity and the B&W conversion. DId it meet the challenge? I'm not so sure, the focal point of the photo to the average viewer gives us the impression that the cross is the focal point. However when you add the title it becomes more obvious where the focal point would be, then your closer to meeting the challenge. Unfortunaltly for you most viewers rarely read the title when voting, they like the photo to tell the story. Another note that religous themed shots generally do not score well, unless they are very powerful. I know its not always about the score but just keep that in the back of your mind for future entries. I'd have suggested maybe moving the cross closer to the intended focal point. I also might suggest adding a bit of constrast to the shot to make it pop a bit more. Good luck in future challenges. |

Little Manby rossbillyComment: Greetings from the critique club. First off let me say there are a few things I love about this photo, first being the composition of the girl and the bubbles. The bubbles becoming the "little man" is an amazing thing and great job of capturing it. I wish the focal point had been a bit deeper in the shot I'm suprised that at f8 more isnt well focused in this. I can see the upper bubbles with pretty good focus but it drops off quickly beyond that. The girl is a bit hot on exposure but not so bad that its blown out, just a tad over exposed. Overall given what you captured and recreating it to change "anything" would be nearly impossible and under basic editing I'd say you got all you could out of this shot. Good luck in future challenges.

Airbornby stargazer05766Comment: Greetings from the critique club. FIrst off let me say this is a nice idea from the challenge stand point. I like the many bubbles and the negative space. My biggest concern with this shot is the lack of focus. I can see the bubble to the left almost in focus, just a touch off, but the shallow DOF and the lack of overall focus takes away from the shot. User a larger number Fstop will get deeper DOF and more in focus. Good luck in future challenges.

Barbieby MyrkvaComment: Greetings from the Critique club. First things first, did you meet the challenge? I think so you have bubbles in the photograph, however your focus point seems to be on the girl not the bubbles. I would have preffered a tack sharp bubble with a reflection of the girl coming through it. As it is most of the focus is on the girl, even though its soft focus, I'd also suggest that you straighten out the background, the wrinkles are very distracting and take away the viewers attention from the intended subject. I do like the composition and I think you had a fantastic vision and I feel that with some of the tweaks to it I mentioned you have a fantastic shot on your hands.

Blacklight Bubblesby ZeppKashComment: Greetings from the critique club. First lets start off with the basics. You definately met the challenge bubbles is the theme and you have bubbles. Creative use of the lighting to give the bubbles a glow, I really like it! My thoughts on improving it. The focus seems a bit soft, not real sharp, not sure if its camera motion blur, or if its focus not in the right spot. @5.6 I would have thought on a P&S that the dof would have been larger. Overall you did a great shot, simple yet creative to give it a sense of being original and well pulled off. Good luck with future challenges.

Strainer Discoby freakin_hilariousComment: Greetings from the Critique club. I like what you have done in a creative manner with this entry. I like the off center composition, although being that your going for the disco ball look, I might have liked to see the strainer not sitting on the board, rather up off it a bit to get the full "disco ball" effect, and the shot not quite so tight to give it a larger perspective of it. Overall very nicely done and I think it scored pretty well, voting on this one I would have given it a 6.

The Cheese Man Can!by TheStickComment: Greetings from the critique club. First off lets start with the basics. Did you meet the challenge? Well yeah you did you have kitchenware in the photo. Now lets get into the technicals of what I see right and wrong with your entry. Things that maybe make it better the next time.
First thing I see with this photo is harsh lighting, notice the shadow behind the subject? Change your distance from the subject to the background, or use a diffuser and bounce the flash to help with that.
Focus issues, while I'm not 100% sure I'd say when you started this shot it was in focus, but due to the long shutter speed based on your focal length and the crop factor on your camera thats way to low unless your tripod mounted and using a shutter release. Since the angle and the flash tell me it wasnt you need to bump up your ISO and get your shutter speed up to help with "camera shake" caused by handholding at too low a shutter speed. Shutter speed should be equal or faster then your focal length X your crop factor. On your camera 2X crop factor at 14mm you will need 1/30th or faster shutter speed, at 45mm you will need 1/90th or faster. Since I dont know your exact focal length thats a guide to use for future entries.
I actually like the angle you shot at, and you already know by the photog nots I read that its not a wow shot. But with the fixing of some of the things I mentioned its above 5, then you just need some creativeness to keep going up the ladder. I looked at your portfolio and you have some good stuff and some talent keep up the good work and best of luck in future challenges.

The Mixer Stalks at Midnightby Sting11165Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club. First let me start by saying that you did a great job meeting the challenge. Kitchenware is certainly represented here. Some things I like, I like the fact that you took a chance at going against the "norm" and used a tilted horizon I like the fact that its tilted and it makes the shot more then a simple snapshot. The creative lighting method helps this as well. I'm not 100% sure that the White balance is accurate, however what "temp"(pun intended) is that scene anyway. I also think that you back focused a week bit. The focus seems to be behind blender just a touch and makes it soft. Over all it scored about where I thought it would had I voted and you did very well. Good luck in future challenges.

Shiningby HaneckComment: I like this shot and am a bit amazed that it didnt score better. The focus the lighting and the composition make it a wonderful shot. I like the vibrant colors of the hair and the brush. Nicely done. |

fishtree.jpgby mkComment: This is a very unique perspective and most likely something that most photogs would never take a second look at. Although you seem to have a nack for "stopping to smell the roses" artsy kind of thing. I really like the way the lower trees are wrapped in to the photo, and now understanding the lens used, and title its way too deep for my small thinking brain. But I do love the photo and the post processing. |
