Haha, you might be slightly up the creek with this one. There's something strange with the colouring. Is it too much contrast or is it a hue/saturation thing? The giveaway is the blue shadows. Snow is so hard to shoot it's so easy to loose the texture. True, a polarizing filter helps.

Lovely shot, that afternoon llow light is such a nice light to work with. You possibly won't score as high as you wanted with this because it doesn't have a DPC 'wow' factor. The elements are all there like low light, great texture on the coat and that lovely chestnut colouring. Closer cropping would highlight those, perhaps getting down to the horse's level and maybe just trying to get your subject into the Rule of Thirds.

I don't know what youve done to this but it just doesn't look right. I'm not that sure that B&W is the best for country scenes anyway but it also appears to be way too post-processed and so looks very artificial
